Hello all and Congratulations on your acceptance!
I just wanted to start a new posting for everyone starting Spring 2011 at UMB/UMB Shady Grove for nursing school, all levels. Please post any questions/information that you wish to share here.
When i received my phone call this morning I was told that we all would be getting our letters and packets of information in the next week or two.
I am very excited to say the least. I am going to get working on getting my vaccine titers and looking into updating my CPR certification to the one needed for school. What all are you doing to get ready?
Hi Grey Lady,I have three questions for you. In terms of registering to 304, there are two sections. I know you already explained that we have to take both, but now that I am registered for both, I have 19 credits (each 304 is worth 4 credits). Is this correct?
My second question is when do we get assigned labs? I am curious and would like to see what my final schedule for the spring will look like.
My third question is regarding our health insurance. Does it start as soon as we accept the offer to attend UMB? I have no health insurance currently so I'm hoping my new insurance will cover my visit to the doctor to get all the shots I need!

I don't have health insurance either so I had to find a way to get by TB Tests and Immunizations at a low/no cost. I did a little research and found out that the Baltimore City Health Department offers free immunizations (for at least Baltimore City Residents, maybe others). I was able to get the Hep B and Tetorifice Booster shot there although they told me that they don't have the MMR available (but I didn't need that one anyway). I also had by TB tests done for free at the Eastern Chest Clinic at 600 N. Caroline Street. They do the placements Monday from about 10-1 and 2-4 (I would double check on the times) and the readings on Wednesday around the same time.

For those in Montgomery County they can have their TB testing done by the county health department - it is $20.00 a test/read.

I have a question about registering for classes to anyone that may be able to help! I have sent in my confirmation form and everything and sent the paper for approval to register to the advisor. My status has changed to Provisional admit-CONFIRMS. I have also been able to create a user name...It just keeps telling me that I am unable to register. Is there something I am missing or havent sent in? Maybe I just have to wait for them to process my information still?Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much!
I would suggest that you take out the registration instructions again and make sure you sent them to the right place or just send the form in again. If you did not use the interactive form there may have been a problem with reading your handwriting. Please understand that all new students are sending in their registration forms so there may be a backlog. Give it a couple of days and try to register again. Provisional Admit Confirms means that your deposit and offer of acceptance has been received and your place is secure.

I had the same problem and it turns out you need to fill out and turn in the APPROVAL TO REGISTER form in order to actually register for the classes. You can submit the online form through Student Forms | University of Maryland School of Nursing
and then click approval to register form from the interactive column - it says that it may not work with a mac but I had no problems with it :) I send my form into Kathie at Shady Grove and she approved me right away! I am now able to register!

Hi Grey Lady,I was wondering if you knew who I could contact regarding my computer for school. I called the IT department to ask them about Macs and they told me that each school is different and I needed to contact the school to see if I can use a Mac or not.

I believe that there is a link on the UMB School of Nursing website where you could go to get the answer that question. If not, or you cannot find it, call the Help Desk at 410 706-HELP and see what you can find out. If you will be attending the Shady Grove campus you will need to get your Mac configured for our wireless but that only takes five minutes if you bring it to them on the second floor of building three.
Does anyone know how to set up their email account yet? My UMB ID is working for everything else, and I can log into the MyUMB Portal (http://myumb.umaryland.edu), but I can't get into either http://sonmail.umaryland.edu OR University of Maryland, Baltimore - Login
