Applying for RN-BSN....
I can't speak for every program, but generally, the statement of goals etc. is an essay. I am in a RN-BSN program now and I believe mine was less than 2 pages double-spaced.

For all the night shift Psych Nurses...
I just resigned from my med-surg oncology position after 8 months due to pregnancy complications, but after the baby is born, I was really thinking about applying to work in this psychiatric hospital in my town. The shift would be perfect so we wouldn't have to put our baby in daycare from 6 pm to 6 am, but my question is... Can you describe what a "typical" night shift is for you? I realize psych is most likely NEVER typical and always different, but ideally, how should your night go, perhaps as far as charting, med pass etc? I've never been on a psych unit at night time and am so curious! THANKS SO MUCH!

USF vs UMD
I am doing the online RN-BSN program...I, like yourself, already held a previous B.S. degree in another field. I went to Howard Community college after my first degree and completed their accelerated nursing program in 13 months to become a RN. So now that I have been working at a RN, I am taking classes part-time at UMB online. So I am technically a Baltimore campus student, but all my classes are online. I am not 100 percent sure what the differences are between classes from my program to the traditional BSN program. I only have to take 10 classes to get the BSN. I am about to finish my first two, so it will be a couple years before I finish...no rush though! I agree with the previous poster that UMB has a lot of little assignments and GROUP assignments that suck a lot, but I feel like they'd be in any program. Good luck hearing from UMB! They take forever to give people decisions by the way!

USF vs UMD
I'd go with UMB...I go there now and it is top 7 in the nation for nursing schools...highly recommend!

7 wks pregnant, offered 36 hr night position
I am also 7 weeks pregnant and currently work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights on a med-surg oncology floor. You can do it! Stay hydrated and try to eat a snack every once in a while. I actually find I am less nauseous at work, oddly enough!

Have any of you given birth while in school?
Yes, I am already a RN. I am working part-time in Med-Surg Oncology and taking two classes online right now. You did all of that! Wow, I am impressed! Do you have non-stop energy : )

Have any of you given birth while in school?
I am in the progress of taking BSN classes part-time. I am due towards the end of November, and you all know that most semesters end closer to the beginning of December. Have any of you managed to take a class, have a baby, and still pass it? I am trying to gauge on whether it would be foolish to even try it. Experiences and advice welcomed!

Does this sound like too much to handle?
Thanks everyone. I told the recruiter that now is just not the right time and thanked her for the opportunity. I realized after posting this, that it probably wasn't a good idea. My gut told me it would be too much. When I do finally get to do hospice, I want to be there 100% for my patients and not have other jobs and school to worry about.
