University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB)-Spring 2011

U.S.A. Maryland

Hello all and Congratulations on your acceptance! :yeah:

I just wanted to start a new posting for everyone starting Spring 2011 at UMB/UMB Shady Grove for nursing school, all levels. Please post any questions/information that you wish to share here.

When i received my phone call this morning I was told that we all would be getting our letters and packets of information in the next week or two.

I am very excited to say the least. I am going to get working on getting my vaccine titers and looking into updating my CPR certification to the one needed for school. What all are you doing to get ready?

[around] how many students are accepted into the BSN program each year? I am just curious to see how many students I will be graduating with in 2012.

Rachel,

I believe there are 72 BSN students beginning Spring 2011 at the Baltimore campus.

So the numbers from an open house lists 643 BSN students are enrolled right now. If you figure that those are split evenly between the 4 semesters, then you could potentially graduate with 161 students.

Still haven't received my acceptance letter. I was expecting it by the end of this week, especially but I believe I was in the first group of people they called (last Friday). Can I panic yet?? Haha

Hi GreyLady,

SURF will be down until Nov 29th. I haven't received the official acceptance letter yet and wonder whether we would be able to pay deposit online.

When is the deadline to pay the deposit? And anyone yet got the letter?

Thanks.

Hi, folks,

I am sure the acceptance letters will get to you soon - don't worry. The deposit is usually due in two weeks. Upon receipt, the school knows you are serious about coming and your seat is officially yours assuming that you will finish any outstanding prerequisite courses with a B or better. What you can be doing now is getting your CPR - we will be holding classes at Shady Grove - and getting your immunizations done. You can download the Report of Medical History form from the UMB website and get started. There is a requirement, which confuses some healthcare providers, that you either have two TB PPD skin tests done within the last 12 months and at least a week apart, or, in the case you have had a positive result, either a chest x-ray report or TB questionnaire. Academically, you can review your Anatomy and Physiology and can look at medical terminology sites on the internet.

Rachel,

I believe there are 72 BSN students beginning Spring 2011 at the Baltimore campus.

Thanks so much! Do you know if that includes both full-time and part-time students?

Grey Lady,

How can we find the dates for the CPR courses and how can we register? Also, how and when can we submit our deposit? Do we have to wait for the letter to be able to do this?

I got my acceptance packet today! woohoo.

Dear Grey Lady... it says that I am classified as out of state - how can I change the status? I've lived in MD nearly my entire life... I moved to NYC for 3 years and just have been back in MD for a 13 months now and by the time school starts it will be 15 months... do I qualify for in-state?

thanks for your help!

Yep. My packet finally arrived in the mailbox this afternoon!:D

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I received my packet Tuesday, in the mail! I already paid the deposit and am in the process of mailing off the confirmation page. I seem to have trouble registering for classes; do I need to wait until they receive the confirmation page?

Anyone who has managed to register for class please let me know how you did it. I can't even login to the general SURFS webpage https://www.simsweb.umaryland.edu/pls/SIMS/twbkwbis.P_ValLogin (not the SURFS admission one) since I'm having trouble creating a new myUMB account.

Registration on SURFS is down till 8 am on the 29th (as is most stuff on SURFS). They are doing some kindof upgrade. And I think there is a hold on registering until you email the school of nursing your desired schedule... it says something like that on the registration sheet that came yesterday.

Grey Lady,

How can we find the dates for the CPR courses and how can we register? Also, how and when can we submit our deposit? Do we have to wait for the letter to be able to do this?

Shady Grove students will be getting an email about CPR classes. I think you will have to wait for your letter - it should include deposit payment directions.
