If you're applying to the University of Florida's Fall 2011 accelerated BSN program in Gainesville, this thread's for you! Applicants, current students, and alumni are all welcome to the discussion!
For starters, here is the program's website:
http://www.nursing.ufl.edu/prospective/prospective_accelerated_bsn_home.shtml
or
http://con.ufl.edu/prospective/prosp...bsn_home.shtml
(I am not sure what the difference is, but in case they are on different servers I will post them both. This way you potentially have two servers to use in case one of them is temporarily down.)
Looking forward to meeting more of you on here!
I actually "appropriated" almost everything above from the previous years discussion board. I would at least like to give credit to the original author. The thread last year has been very helpful for me. It contained a lot of quality content and postings. It even included posts from members of the UF College of Nursing administration as well current, former, and prospective students. I hope that this thread will be just as helpful. I look forward to discussing various topics with all of you, such as the inevitable "what is your G.P.A and GRE score." I also hope that one day soon I will be able to meet with all of you face to face as newly admitted students for the Fall 2011 term. Good Luck!!!
In good faith I will say that my undergraduate GPA was very low, around a 2.0, but I earned a 3.5 GPA at FGCU for my MBA in Finance. It was a 4.0 until my final two semesters when I experienced an unfortunate series of losses of friends and loved ones. I have taken a few other courses at the undergraduate level since my bachelors degree and earned either an A or a rare B+. I am currently retaking all of my prerequisites because I took them, originally, over seven years ago. I earned a B+ in Nutrition last semester, and I expect close to straight A's this semester even though I am taking BSC 2085, BSC 2086, MCB 2010, DEP 2004, and STA 2023 all in the same semester. I am also working forty hours per week as a Financial Aid Officer at City College and teaching in the College of Business part time at the same institution. No, I would not recommend this to anyone else or to myself if I could do it over again. I took the GRE at the beginning of this month, but I was not pleased with my results. I scored a 1250, and I plan on retaking it in the beginning of December. I scored a 1380 on the SAT and a 690 on the GMAT. I was very tired, and I think I will do significantly better the next time. As I said before, I look forward to hearing from all of you regarding your backgrounds and any questions you might have.
We find out the decision through mail (postal service) only and not at all through e-mail, correct? Also is this letter mailed to the address provided on the short personal data form that we entered along with our application on the UF Nursing website?
Thank you Ken for all that you do!!! :)
RLL67 - I am almost certain that the decisions are mailed to us and email is not used. But, that may have been changed.
Lola Mac - I think it probably depends on where you live when you move here. I am sure you could prbably get away without having a car, if you needed to. I know there is a bus that runs within the city. And the College of Nursing is located within walking distance of Shands. I'm not sure where all of the clinicals will take place. If its outside of Gainesville, i'm sure one of your/our classmates would be willing to give you a lift.
Hi!I'm also anxiously waiting to hear back from UF. I'm not familiar with the area and was wondering if a car is necessary for the program? I'd like to go without, but if it is extremely inconvenient than I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and get one. Good Luck Everyone!
I don't want to step on any Albert's toes here but... a bicycle or a scooter would be my vote... Well, I live in J-Ville and had to weigh cost/balance's, travel time, parking, housing etc. to go to UF... Lot's of off campus housing near campus and busses (omg a GRE word I remembered, LOL). AND you must love orange and blue GO GATOR'S.......
You definitely do not need to have a care, many students this semester do not. This last year, there were three hospital clinical sites: Shands, the VA and North Florida. Shands and the VA are right next to each other. NFRMC is on another side of town. There are also various sites throughout the county that you will be going to. Since you entire clinical group goes at once, most people car pool. Keep in mind that sometimes you have to be at clinicals at 6:45am, which is earlier than the buses run, so people have had to get creative.
OMG....I don't think that I can last another two weeks or more to find out if I am accepted to this program or not... I will be graduating with my bachelor's in two weeks and this is the only program that I applied to. If I dont get accepted than I have no idea of what I'm going to do... This is all or nothing at this point and the nerves are killing me =(

Yes, best wishes to everyone! We all have unique stories and I think we'd come together to make a quality class, let's hope it comes to fruition!
