University of Florida Accelerated BSN Program Fall 2011

U.S.A. Florida

Published

If you're applying to the University of Florida's Fall 2011 accelerated BSN program in Gainesville, this thread's for you! Applicants, current students, and alumni are all welcome to the discussion!

For starters, here is the program's website:

http://www.nursing.ufl.edu/prospective/prospective_accelerated_bsn_home.shtml

or

http://con.ufl.edu/prospective/prosp...bsn_home.shtml

(I am not sure what the difference is, but in case they are on different servers I will post them both. This way you potentially have two servers to use in case one of them is temporarily down.)

Looking forward to meeting more of you on here!

I actually "appropriated" almost everything above from the previous years discussion board. I would at least like to give credit to the original author. The thread last year has been very helpful for me. It contained a lot of quality content and postings. It even included posts from members of the UF College of Nursing administration as well current, former, and prospective students. I hope that this thread will be just as helpful. I look forward to discussing various topics with all of you, such as the inevitable "what is your G.P.A and GRE score." I also hope that one day soon I will be able to meet with all of you face to face as newly admitted students for the Fall 2011 term. Good Luck!!!

In good faith I will say that my undergraduate GPA was very low, around a 2.0, but I earned a 3.5 GPA at FGCU for my MBA in Finance. It was a 4.0 until my final two semesters when I experienced an unfortunate series of losses of friends and loved ones. I have taken a few other courses at the undergraduate level since my bachelors degree and earned either an A or a rare B+. I am currently retaking all of my prerequisites because I took them, originally, over seven years ago. I earned a B+ in Nutrition last semester, and I expect close to straight A's this semester even though I am taking BSC 2085, BSC 2086, MCB 2010, DEP 2004, and STA 2023 all in the same semester. I am also working forty hours per week as a Financial Aid Officer at City College and teaching in the College of Business part time at the same institution. No, I would not recommend this to anyone else or to myself if I could do it over again. I took the GRE at the beginning of this month, but I was not pleased with my results. I scored a 1250, and I plan on retaking it in the beginning of December. I scored a 1380 on the SAT and a 690 on the GMAT. I was very tired, and I think I will do significantly better the next time. As I said before, I look forward to hearing from all of you regarding your backgrounds and any questions you might have.

Hi,

Does anyone know who I should contact regarding the facebook group? I sent a request to join the group two weeks ago and it still has not been accepted.

Thanks =)

Hey guys! I wish I would've found this site earlier. There's a lot of great information in here. I got in. I'm staying at the Enclave. Can't wait to see you guys. Also, where's the link to the facebook group?? I want to join! :D

Hey, I looked at the UF site and really like the program for my second bachelors. Does anyone know how many applicants they receive each semester for the accelerated bsn and how many they accept?

Not to be rude, but you really need to apply somewhere else. You are not going to get into the UF nursing school.

Statistically speaking, UF favors its own students. And they even have to kick ass themselves. You must have a 3.7 or higher U.F GPA in order to get into the school, and that' s just for U.F students. They only take about 50 transfer students, so that means your GPA has to be even higher at a probably more RESPECTED school. Which leads me to my next point...

FGCU? Are you kidding me? That is not considered a school at my university. Not to bash on you, but our standards are just higher. Even if you had a 4.0 caliber there (which you don't) I don't think they'd let you in.

That's just the facts of life.

How is the new GRE? Compared to TEAS? I know they are completely different, I just wanted an opinion from people who took both?

Not cool reality.check. Miller1234, I took both the TEAS and GRE. I'm sure you know the teas has science and no writing whereas the gre has writing but no science. The verbal sections are much different in that much of the teas verbal is interpreting different types of written forms like a phone book or something and doing correct grammar whereas the gre is mainly passages for reading comp and filling in sentence blanks for vocab. The math is much simpler on the teas although it is also fairly simple on gre if you study. I would say the gre is on a whole different level of difficulty. I earned a 92.7% on the teas and a 166 quant/154 verb/4.0 wr on the gre and have applied to UCF(needs teas), UF(needs gre), and USF(no test needed) so I'm assuming I'll have a better chance at UCF...or maybe I'm wrong who knows. And according to Mr. know it all reality check up here, my degree means nothing cause I went to FGCU even though I earned a 3.71 GPA. Sounds like this character is the one who needs a reality check. We'll see in March! Good luck Miller.

I got into UCF's absn so FU reality check!!

So, anyone have any feedback on how the program is going? :)
