If you're applying to the University of Florida's Fall 2011 accelerated BSN program in Gainesville, this thread's for you! Applicants, current students, and alumni are all welcome to the discussion!
For starters, here is the program's website:
http://www.nursing.ufl.edu/prospective/prospective_accelerated_bsn_home.shtml
or
http://con.ufl.edu/prospective/prosp...bsn_home.shtml
(I am not sure what the difference is, but in case they are on different servers I will post them both. This way you potentially have two servers to use in case one of them is temporarily down.)
Looking forward to meeting more of you on here!
I actually "appropriated" almost everything above from the previous years discussion board. I would at least like to give credit to the original author. The thread last year has been very helpful for me. It contained a lot of quality content and postings. It even included posts from members of the UF College of Nursing administration as well current, former, and prospective students. I hope that this thread will be just as helpful. I look forward to discussing various topics with all of you, such as the inevitable "what is your G.P.A and GRE score." I also hope that one day soon I will be able to meet with all of you face to face as newly admitted students for the Fall 2011 term. Good Luck!!!
In good faith I will say that my undergraduate GPA was very low, around a 2.0, but I earned a 3.5 GPA at FGCU for my MBA in Finance. It was a 4.0 until my final two semesters when I experienced an unfortunate series of losses of friends and loved ones. I have taken a few other courses at the undergraduate level since my bachelors degree and earned either an A or a rare B+. I am currently retaking all of my prerequisites because I took them, originally, over seven years ago. I earned a B+ in Nutrition last semester, and I expect close to straight A's this semester even though I am taking BSC 2085, BSC 2086, MCB 2010, DEP 2004, and STA 2023 all in the same semester. I am also working forty hours per week as a Financial Aid Officer at City College and teaching in the College of Business part time at the same institution. No, I would not recommend this to anyone else or to myself if I could do it over again. I took the GRE at the beginning of this month, but I was not pleased with my results. I scored a 1250, and I plan on retaking it in the beginning of December. I scored a 1380 on the SAT and a 690 on the GMAT. I was very tired, and I think I will do significantly better the next time. As I said before, I look forward to hearing from all of you regarding your backgrounds and any questions you might have.
I have virtually completely shut off any thoughts or concerns about acceptance to UF. I mean, at this point, there is absolutely nothing that will change the outcome. Why worry? We will all get our letters when we get them. To be honest, I probably won't know for a few days after mine arrives unless they send an accompanying email. I really don't check my mail very frequently. Hopefully my roommates don't lose it, stick it in a random drawer, or throw it out not realizing what it is.
I agree, it is definitely out of our hands now. Which thats the attitude I had after I put my application in the mail. I am definitely trying not to worry about it. But, I would be lying if I said I wasn't thinking about it. I also believe it will turn out how it is supposed to, but I can't help but to want that to mean I am in:-)
bmmj330,
Thanks for your kind words! I agree, when one door closes another one opens! It is so discouraging to be denied before you hear from your number one school. Hopefully UF will open for both of us so we can be classmates!! Good luck to you!
I hope everyone is having a good week! This website really helps ease the stress reading about how everyone is feeling! I am also anxious/stressed/nervous! I wish all of you the best of luck this next week! Hope to meet everyone soon as classmates!! GOOD LUCK GOOD LUCK GOOD LUCK!! :)
hello everyone! :)
we are so close to getting our letters and i know everyone is just as nervous as i am. honestly just looking at the numbers i'm not the most competitive applicant, i have a 3.2gpa and a 1200gre (580 verbal 620 quantitative) but if anyone out there is in my position we cannot forget where we are applying. i had the opportunity to attend uf as an undergraduate (i graduate this sat woohoo!) and i can tell you from experience that uf looks at the overall applicant. they will take the time to read our personal statements, resumes and letters of recommendations. it is our thoughts, goals, and personal stories that makes us perfect candidates for the program, not just the numbers printed on our transcripts. i hope everyone is thinking positive and i wish you all the best of luck! :)
I also have two pre-requisites in progress which I will be done with next week when I graduate from my undergrad studies =) so excited!!!! The only thing is that graduating without having a clue of what is next sucks...I can't wait to hear the decision from UF, then one way or the other, accepted or not, I'll be able to figure out my next move...
Thanks jbishop for your post and your insight. I am worried, just as everyone else. When I began looking at Accelerated Programs, UF was number one on my list. Not only is it "UF" but I liked that they look at the students total body of work, and not only prereq's and test scores. My Master's GPA is a 4.0 and my Bachelor's GPA is a 3.85, but my prereq's were only average and I scored a 1010 on the GRE, definitely not great but it is over a 1000. I teach high school and am involved in A LOT of the extracurricular activities, so I hope they are looking for a well-rounded candidate who can handle the course load. It definitely makes me feel better that you have experience with UF and their selection process. I guess we will all find out soon enough!! Good luck everyone!!
ck32,
one thing i can say about uf is that it is diverse! i know people that i am going to school with now from all different backgrounds and educational experiences. also there is no set limit on what scores or grades will get you in. as long as the minimum requirements are met, the application will be considered. also as a word of encouragement to everyone i have two very close friends that just completed the generic bsn program here at uf and graduate tomorrow. they both already have jobs lined up at a local hospital here in gainesville! i am confident that uf's nursing program will prepare us all to finally fulfill our goal of becoming nurses, and for that reason i am stoked to find out :) who knows maybe we will get our letters today

Since April 30th is Saturday and they don't work on weekends, so at the latest this Friday, April 29th. My guess is for those who lives in G'ville area they probably would get it by Saturday and the rest would get it early next week!
I don't have nightmares but that's because I am stressing out to sleep well!!
