University of Florida Accelerated BSN Program Fall 2011

U.S.A. Florida

Published

If you're applying to the University of Florida's Fall 2011 accelerated BSN program in Gainesville, this thread's for you! Applicants, current students, and alumni are all welcome to the discussion!

For starters, here is the program's website:

http://www.nursing.ufl.edu/prospective/prospective_accelerated_bsn_home.shtml

or

http://con.ufl.edu/prospective/prosp...bsn_home.shtml

(I am not sure what the difference is, but in case they are on different servers I will post them both. This way you potentially have two servers to use in case one of them is temporarily down.)

Looking forward to meeting more of you on here!

I actually "appropriated" almost everything above from the previous years discussion board. I would at least like to give credit to the original author. The thread last year has been very helpful for me. It contained a lot of quality content and postings. It even included posts from members of the UF College of Nursing administration as well current, former, and prospective students. I hope that this thread will be just as helpful. I look forward to discussing various topics with all of you, such as the inevitable "what is your G.P.A and GRE score." I also hope that one day soon I will be able to meet with all of you face to face as newly admitted students for the Fall 2011 term. Good Luck!!!

In good faith I will say that my undergraduate GPA was very low, around a 2.0, but I earned a 3.5 GPA at FGCU for my MBA in Finance. It was a 4.0 until my final two semesters when I experienced an unfortunate series of losses of friends and loved ones. I have taken a few other courses at the undergraduate level since my bachelors degree and earned either an A or a rare B+. I am currently retaking all of my prerequisites because I took them, originally, over seven years ago. I earned a B+ in Nutrition last semester, and I expect close to straight A's this semester even though I am taking BSC 2085, BSC 2086, MCB 2010, DEP 2004, and STA 2023 all in the same semester. I am also working forty hours per week as a Financial Aid Officer at City College and teaching in the College of Business part time at the same institution. No, I would not recommend this to anyone else or to myself if I could do it over again. I took the GRE at the beginning of this month, but I was not pleased with my results. I scored a 1250, and I plan on retaking it in the beginning of December. I scored a 1380 on the SAT and a 690 on the GMAT. I was very tired, and I think I will do significantly better the next time. As I said before, I look forward to hearing from all of you regarding your backgrounds and any questions you might have.

Hey ya'll!

I got my letter today as well and that little envelope scared me...but I opened it to find out that I got placed on the wait list! I'm super excited and hoping some spots open up!

Has anyone talked to the admissions office about how many people were placed on the wait list? Or if we can find out how far up the wait list we are?

Congratulations to those of you who got accepted!

Congrats to those who got in! As for those of us on the waitlist.. Im not sure how many people are on the waitlist but I do know they cannot tell us where we stand as far as the order. Also the order is tentative and all of us on the list will be re-evaluated once spots open up after the 13th. Also for some encouragement... Ken did say there has been years where almost everyone on the list got accepted :) Lets hope that this year is one of those years ;) Still soo excited! Good luck to all still waiting on a letter :)

jbishop2008,

Thanks for the info! It's VERY exciting to know that most of us on the wait list could be accepted! I'm really hoping that's the case!

Only a few more weeks of waiting...can't wait to find out!

Hi everyone!

I met with ken earlier this week and sadly found out that I was not accepted nor waitlisted :( I'm going to retake some courses and gre to hopefully get a spot next year along with apply to a few other schools. I wish everyone who did get in and those who are waitlisted the best of luck with their future careers as nurses! Mine will be put off a little longer but will be a nurse one day!! Congratulations to all of you!!! And go gators :-)

Hello fellow waitlisters!! They will not let us know how many are on the list or what rank we are. The impression I got was that if we have other options pursue them as there is no guarantee any of us will get in. But, at the same time, we just have to be patient and hope that good things will happen. That's my perspective, I am going to try to be patient and hope for the best!!

I am sorry to all those that didn't get in!! I am happy to hear that all of those that didn't get in and have posted on here, will be reapplying either to UF next year or to different programs. I think that all of us on here, whether accepted, waitlisted, or not accepted, will all be great nurses one day!!

Hello future classmates of fall 2K11!!!! I just got my letter in the mail yesterday and am ecstatic! It feels oh-so-good to be a Florida Gator. I cannot wait to meet you all in the fall. And to those still waiting to hear: Best of luck to you! Diligence and persistence are always rewarded. After having a bit of a rough go in my own application process a wise soul said to me, "You are going to nursing school. I have no doubt about that. It's really not a matter of 'if' you are going, but rather 'when'. Because if you want something bad enough you will get there eventually--maybe just on a different time schedule than you originally planned." This encouraged me. I hope it encourages you too! Good luck!

Hi everyone!

I found out that I got into UF! I am so excited and will definitely be attending UF. I am looking for a place to live and was wondering if anyone else is looking for a roommate. Please message me if you are. I would love to live with someone in the nursing program who knows the demands of the program. For those of you who are waitlisted, I really hope things work out for you. I was looking at last years' blog and it seemed like a lot of the people from the waitlist ended up being admitted. Good luck!

I also I found out I got into Nursing school at UF. I am excited to see you all who got in and good luck to those on the waiting list!! I am excited for us all to start our new adventure!

I would like to get a head start on buying books and supplies, and was wondering if any of the current UF ABSN students could give us some ideas on how to save money since there are so many to buy. In the past, I have used amazon and half.com, but am unsure if previous editions are ok.

Also, has anyone started looking at the stuff to do before Aug 1?

i would please, please, please ask that everyone be patient in regards to making purchases. guidelines regarding uniform and equipment requirements will be sent out at a later date. information on textbooks will be available closer to the start of fall semester in august.

Ok, great. Thank you!

Thanks for all of the well-wishes!! I am patiently waiting notification and am believing strongly that I will be getting a phone call inviting me into the program in a matter of weeks:-) For those already accepted, did your letter give you any dates?? Just trying to pre-plan:-)
