If you're applying to the University of Florida's Fall 2011 accelerated BSN program in Gainesville, this thread's for you! Applicants, current students, and alumni are all welcome to the discussion!
For starters, here is the program's website:
http://www.nursing.ufl.edu/prospective/prospective_accelerated_bsn_home.shtml
or
http://con.ufl.edu/prospective/prosp...bsn_home.shtml
(I am not sure what the difference is, but in case they are on different servers I will post them both. This way you potentially have two servers to use in case one of them is temporarily down.)
Looking forward to meeting more of you on here!
I actually "appropriated" almost everything above from the previous years discussion board. I would at least like to give credit to the original author. The thread last year has been very helpful for me. It contained a lot of quality content and postings. It even included posts from members of the UF College of Nursing administration as well current, former, and prospective students. I hope that this thread will be just as helpful. I look forward to discussing various topics with all of you, such as the inevitable "what is your G.P.A and GRE score." I also hope that one day soon I will be able to meet with all of you face to face as newly admitted students for the Fall 2011 term. Good Luck!!!
In good faith I will say that my undergraduate GPA was very low, around a 2.0, but I earned a 3.5 GPA at FGCU for my MBA in Finance. It was a 4.0 until my final two semesters when I experienced an unfortunate series of losses of friends and loved ones. I have taken a few other courses at the undergraduate level since my bachelors degree and earned either an A or a rare B+. I am currently retaking all of my prerequisites because I took them, originally, over seven years ago. I earned a B+ in Nutrition last semester, and I expect close to straight A's this semester even though I am taking BSC 2085, BSC 2086, MCB 2010, DEP 2004, and STA 2023 all in the same semester. I am also working forty hours per week as a Financial Aid Officer at City College and teaching in the College of Business part time at the same institution. No, I would not recommend this to anyone else or to myself if I could do it over again. I took the GRE at the beginning of this month, but I was not pleased with my results. I scored a 1250, and I plan on retaking it in the beginning of December. I scored a 1380 on the SAT and a 690 on the GMAT. I was very tired, and I think I will do significantly better the next time. As I said before, I look forward to hearing from all of you regarding your backgrounds and any questions you might have.
I feel like this is the week we'll find out who on the wait-list is getting in! Good luck everyone :) and thanks UFCON for always giving us updates. I know the decision process is not an easy one. Although we're dying to find out we appreciate all the hard work that has been put into the admission process. Thanks!
OMG....so I was waitlisted and when I receive the phone call today informing me that I was off the list I literally started to cry. I have checked my phone call log at least a dozen times to check if this is a dream or not. I cannot wait till I get the actual packet in the mail in order to reasure myself that this is in fact happening, since I dreamt of it every night for the past 5 months.... Good luck to every one who is still in the waitlist and hopefully you will get some good news too =)
Hey lstuckey79!
Congrats on getting accepted!! Now that I've been accepted, I'm stressing about living arrangements! I saw your post about wanting to live with a nursing student! Have you figured out where you're living? I know nothing about Gainesville or the UF campus, so I'm completely lost when it comes to figuring out housing! I can't send PM's yet because I don't have 15 posts, but I'd love to talk about this! Maybe you can email me?
Congrats to everyone being accepted off the waitlist. It is nice to see the cohort finally coming together. Just wanted to jump into the conversation because I have also been spending a lot of time pondering housing. I am new to Gainesville and I'm interested in having a roommate, esp a fellow student. It'd be nice to hear other people's plans for housing and chat with anyone interested in sharing a space. I'm also part of the facebook group if that is an easier way to get in touch.
Hey :) Im not looking for a roommate or housing but if any of you new to Gainesville need housing advice let me know :) There's a lot of great housing and a lot of.. well not so good housing lol. If any of you have questions about if somewhere is a good place to live or not let me know. I was a leasing agent and have lived in a lot of different places.. anyways I'm super excited to meet all of you. Were going to have an awesome class and I know we can all be great friends and resources for each other.
jbishop2008,
I would LOVE some information about housing! I'd love to live fairly close to the college of nursing/Shands...but safety is definitely number 1 for me! What streets should I be looking on? I was reading a previous post about the "student ghetto"...where is that? In your opinion, would it be better to rent a room in a house or stick to an apartment? I've personally always just lived in an apartment, but I'm open to the idea of a house. Please let me know what suggestions you have!
Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it!
I'm pumped about the program! I know the next couple of months are going to fly by and I have so much to do! Eeekk....
