World Canada CA Programs

Updated:   Published

Hey everyone! I am planning to apply to the degree holder route for nursing at the University of Calgary for January 2021. I found this site by reading through the University of Calgary, January 2020 forum and thought it would be good to start one for this next years in take.

I am currently finishing my English prerequisite and my anatomy and physiology course at Athabasca. Last year it looked like the GPA cut off was a 3.6 and that most people over a 3.7 got accepted.

I don't really know why it would be higher? I know at other schools the GPA to be accepted into programs in actually lower because there is less students applying internationally and from out of province so it's less competitive now. Not sure about nursing though.

I would honestly assume it’s less complétive bc no out of province and also no international. On top of that students are deferring their admissions and choosing to take time off from school because of COVID.

Hi!
I thought I'd jump in and say hi! I am applying to Calgary in the degree holder route and was waitlisted for UBC for this September. From my experience being on the waitlist this Summer, this admissions cycle is different than past years. I'm not sure if it will be the same for U of Calgary, but UBC had a lot more people accepting their initial offers than usual - this means that the waitlist was a lot slower, and less people are being accepted off of it. I think this means that more people are staying local and choosing schools that are closer to home. I'm not too sure, but thought I'd mention it since we were on the topic of COVID. I'm sure this could also change by January and differ from UBC intake.

Hey, just wondering if u know how the GPA scale of Athabasca differs to UofC, like say an 86 is an A at Athabasca, would it still translate over to UofC as an A or will it change to an A- due to the difference in the grading scale?

Good afternoon,

I am taking a few courses through athabasca univ as well. Wondering how everyone calculate their approximate GPA? As you see the chart below, Faculty of Nursing official GPA scale seems rank differently than Athabasca&u of c general.

does anyone know how the admission department calculate our GPA? Will take reconsider the score and transfer to as per the nursing department standard? So for example, my fianl score is 87 which is A according to Uof c general chart but then it will turn out to become A-(3.7) when they process our transcript? Dhow does this work? Please advise,

Chloe

This question has been answered in previous forums for each admitting cycle at u of c. Refer to that or just contact the u of c office when you apply and they can tell you your GPA.

You deleted your follow up comment but they don’t use the nursing undergraduate one. That’s for if you’re admitted into nursing and are taking nursing courses. They use the other one. They weigh your mark with the official university of Calgary standards. The one above this comment with the TD mortgage ad is what they’ll use!

Is anyone here having this same issue with their application?

I already have a bachelor's degree so I am applying for the degree holder option. However everytime I click on the degree holder option, it says 'you have to be a prior degree holder to choose this'. I reviewed everything else in my application and have all the universities I attended listed as well as the date my degree was conferred. 308823389_ScreenShot2020-07-22at14_53_12.thumb.png.b215387ca3f25b19faf863b00462e4b3.png

Me too! I just started the Athabasca course. I currently have a 3.7 so depends how I do on this and the English course I am in.

Hey, I was just wondering what English course are you taking with Athabasca? Engl 255, 211?? and how is it, I saw some reviews online saying they're easy compared to University English classes.

Also, just wondering does anybody know what the GPA was for Fall 2020 transfer admissions? I haven't heard anybody talking about it. I checked out last year's allnurses page and saw that a few individuals got in with a 3.58 I just hope there isn't a big fluctuation in grades this year with everything being online.

I am taking my English course through the university I’m attaining my degree from. Sorry no help there!

Hey all!

I am applying to the degree holder route with a 3.74 GPA. Hope the admission GPA is not inflated this year :S

My GPA for undergrad was 3.45. My prerequisite grades on the other hand are very high. However, seeing everyone else's high GPA is making me anxious. Does anyone here know anyone that has gotten into this program with a low GPA?

Hey, I saw on the university of calgary reddit someone got in with a 3.4 for Winter I'm not exactly sure which intake, but I know last Winter on the old allnurses page individuals got in with a 3.5! I think there are more seats for degree holders so the GPA usually goes lower than transfers!
