Hey everyone! I am planning to apply to the degree holder route for nursing at the University of Calgary for January 2021. I found this site by reading through the University of Calgary, January 2020 forum and thought it would be good to start one for this next years in take.
I am currently finishing my English prerequisite and my anatomy and physiology course at Athabasca. Last year it looked like the GPA cut off was a 3.6 and that most people over a 3.7 got accepted.

Has anyone received their admission package yet? I think it might only be sent through email, not in the physical mail. I'm looking at the Health Care Provider CPR courses, and wondering when we will have orientation so I can sign up for a CPR course that's a day or two before that. Since our CPR is only valid for 12 months, I have heard that it's best to certify in the first week of January or last week of December so it doesn't expire when we're in the final weeks of practicum each Fall term.
No package yet...maybe they are waiting to accept everyone first? Not sure, just got the acceptance email and that's all. Oh yeah CPR, N95, police check and vaccines...so much to do before class starts!!

I was wondering if someone could estimate my GPA. I asked on here about a month ago and following the GPA scale posted earlier, it said I had about a 3.7. My current university only uses percentages and I finished with an 82% this year. When I called UofC, they said my GPA is around 3.35, which is much lower than I expected! Does this sound correct or should I ask them to review it again? I'm very stressed and I'm probably at the very bottom of the waitlist. I feel like I have the smallest chance of getting in ?
Hey! My percentage was about the same and my GPA is higher and have already been accepted. Shoot me an email and I can help you calculate it and check it! Email is [email protected]
Hi guys!
I’m an international applicant and my portal has been “reviewing courses” to see if they meet the requirement for almost 3 weeks now. I know that it can take longer with international documents, but did anyone else have this problem? I called and they said it’s my anatomy & physiology under review... I hate the wait to hear back. The course should definitely be accepted since it was sufficient for my previous B.S degree. I’m still unsure what my final GPA is because they said they couldn’t disclose that until the courses are approved to calculate it, however I’ve earned a 3.8 in both my last two semesters of my undergrad, so I’m assuming it’ll fall within that range. Congrats to everyone that’s been accepted already!

They take your prerequisites and then your last 15 credits NOT including your prerequisites If they fall into the last credits! I had that notice for about 2 weeks as well.
Hey everyone!
congrats to those who got admitted!!
I applied into the degree holder route and also got the “Your GPA is below the admission average” and am waiting until the morning to call u of c to ask about my GPA! Pretty discouraged since I’ve applied 5 other times back in high school and first year (twice as a high school student, twice as a transfer student, and once with their special admissions route by recommendation from a professor) through MRU and was rejected because I was .02 away from their competitive GPA of, I kid you not, 4.0 as an internal transfer. Has anyone, off the same waitlist, been admitted?! I’m also not even sure which of my courses transferred over since I finished my BA from UVic but also have a diploma from MRU and all the random GPA boosters I took from trying to reapply :/ Lindy had a look at my unofficial transcripts and said it was a strong application and I finished off A&P and Stats with a B- in both over the Summer so I’m sure those have dragged it down a little.
sorry for the super down rant/post ? just super stressed!!

If this is the same thing they used for nursing then I’m not sure how I already got accepted.
I believe the attachment I have below is what they use but don’t quote me on that one.

I’ve heard MRU is incredibly hard to get into for nursing. So sorry to hear, that is really discouraging. Calgary will take your prerequisites and then the last 15 credits you completed whether they were single courses or from your diploma or degree. Whichever was the newest stuff not including prerequisites. I don’t think they have started going off the wait list yet but it’s still early. Best of luck!

Hey! So sorry to hear about this ? . Keep trying and don’t give up, nursing is incredibly competitive to get into in Calgary and I don’t know why. Retake prerequisites if you have to, and also consider applying out of province too. Best of luck to you!

I agree look out of province! University of Saskatoons average is not as competitive (this year was a 71%). Trent university in Ontario. And there’s a 3 year program in BC as well. Many colleges offer the exact same nursing program as well but have lower competitive average so always worth applying!

So sorry to hear you have had such a difficult time!! MRU is incredibly hard to get into. I was told by one of their admissions' employees that even students with a 4.0 GPA get rejected... if they don't apply on the first day! It's insane. They have more 4.0 GPAs applying than seats. I think because if you have a degree, they base it off of your last 4 courses. So lots of people upgrade with 4 easy classes and apply with a 4.0.
Were you able to figure out your GPA for U of C? It's still super early. You could definitely get in from the waitlist!! Wishing you the best of luck.

Also UofL also has an accelerated 2 year nursing program too and its only about 2 hours away from Calgary.

Oh shoot! Maybe you're right. I feel like I have a super slim chance of getting in now unless there are a lot less applicants, which I highly doubt. Thank you for the help!!
I calculated all 30 units together so the prerequisites plus 5 of my most recent courses. Have you tried to call the university?
