For all of us applying to UBC's BSN 2016 program, let's communicate, share and give encouragement to one another throughout the process.
I just submitted my general UBC application to get the ball rolling early, and it already gave me access to get started on my supplemental application. This is my second time applying, so I hope to do a better job on my app this year and at least get an interview. But I have also accepted that this may not be my fate and I have other options.
Incidentally, to others who also applied previously: I phoned to make sure all my transcripts were still on file, and they are not! UBC admissions discards everything from last year. So I have six transcripts to send in again (including high school). Expensive and time consuming, and also seems a little crazy in the age of computers that they didn't keep electronic copies. But, we do what we have to do... Good luck everyone!
It would be so nice to know our ranking going into the interview, but realistically, I can see people with high rankings relaxing and flopping on the interview, or people gossiping about their ranking pre-interview; although, now that the MMIs are no more, we wont be meeting face to face in the pre-interview like previous cohorts did (though, I would find it comforting to be around people going through the same). It feels like being in a holding pattern right now.
OMG, welcome to my new obsession...I have been reading the previous years version of this same thread, it's like a soap opera where you watch someone go through everything we are going through and you follow someone from stressed about the supplemental to interview/rejection and acceptance/rejection. I feel so happy for the people who get accepted, so sad for those rejected...respect for those who try again the next year, and wonder who I will be in the next coming month. So much planning goes into this, and in reality, the scoring and rationale is a mystery (though there are tonnes of pointers). According to the past threads, when we get to the interview, it is a completely level playing field (supplemental and academic score out the window!!!), but I personally think they would still matter, or why do first draft interviews and second draft (or maybe people just see it that way because of hockey and other sports), why not just do a mass interview of people who qualify?...better yet!...TALENT SHOW!!!Swimsuit competition?LOL. I just wish I could meet with the decision makers face to face, over coffee, and tell them what this means to me...I'm sure I'm not alone there. From what I can see, after the interview is over the number of people wait-listed who are accepted later ranges from 13-27, but the garunteed waitlist numbers to get in are 1-10. I know that the number of applicants to nursing for a year is largely dictated by the number of med school applicants...nursing is often the fall back plan of pre-meds, last year had a lot of pre-med applications, but I have no news about this year...realistically, if you like working with patients, really getting to know them, having a real positive impact on someones life, nursing is so much better than being a doctor (correction: the average nurse has much more opportunity for this than the average doctor...exceptions to every rule). Well, this has been a rant of sorts, for what its worth, I really hope to meet you all some day... I know we all want this, and have worked hard for this...if I get in, I'm drinking the biggest coffee ever made, kissing my girlfriend like a madman, dancing like an idiot, calling my mom, crying a little, buying something stupid, eating something bad for me, and hiking somewhere beautiful to do a secondary victory dance.
Hey @NERVOUS IN VAN , where did you hear that many applied as pre-meds last year? Nurses are nurses and doctors and doctors. I really doubt anyones done that last year, but if they have, that's...not nice. Haha mind if I join your "dance"? Yes, their rationale is as far as I know, quite mysterious. They must have some kind of rubric or other marking schemes, and we all wish we fit those schemes and make the top 200. Well 10 more days of waiting left...
Hi baldeagle, I heard about the pre-meds failing to get into UBC med immediately applying for the nursing program from multiple students within the nursing program...they tend to apply to both at the same time and some people will leave the nursing program if they get accepted to med the next year...it makes sense, the pre-med people already have an amazing application ready, tonnes of volunteer experience (hopefully), and a great GPA...as for the victory dance...I think everyone is welcome!!!...be prepared for awful dancing!!!

I graduated a few years ago from the program....I know of one person who did this and left at the end of year 1 of nursing to go into med. It's not very common. Retention rates for the program are high and most people who are accepted end up graduating. Good luck to everyone applying :)
Thanks for the input sunship88, maybe my perspective is skewed...I personally know three graduates of the UBC Nursing program who started out as UBC med school applicants (these three completed the Nursing program and say they are beyond happy they chose to stick with nursing), I also know a fourth who left the program in the first year to go into UBC med. You're right that the number of med school applicants has less effect than I think it actually does, that was only four people out of one cohort, and three of them ended up loving nursing...I think I'm just stressed and vocalizing my fears of getting bumped out of entry into the program by someone who will leave the moment something else comes along...actually, I know I am stressed...Not for the interview, or the coursework, or whether or not I am a good match for the program...just by the process, and the waiting. The great news is, I know that its worth it...my friends who have graduated from the program are doing fantastic, and love their work, and thats worth a tonne.

@soccergirl. Yup it's like everything NERVOUS IN VAN mentioned. The emals start on the 21st. either theyre invitations or turndowns. If we dont get the interview, we're still informed and they'll tell us our ranking. But it we get an interview, they only tell us information on the interview
