For all of us applying to UBC's BSN 2016 program, let's communicate, share and give encouragement to one another throughout the process.
I just submitted my general UBC application to get the ball rolling early, and it already gave me access to get started on my supplemental application. This is my second time applying, so I hope to do a better job on my app this year and at least get an interview. But I have also accepted that this may not be my fate and I have other options.
Incidentally, to others who also applied previously: I phoned to make sure all my transcripts were still on file, and they are not! UBC admissions discards everything from last year. So I have six transcripts to send in again (including high school). Expensive and time consuming, and also seems a little crazy in the age of computers that they didn't keep electronic copies. But, we do what we have to do... Good luck everyone!
Anyways, so by now I guess the nursing admissions committee has sorted out the people they'll invite for the interview. Fingers crossed for next week...
You're right chubbyhamster...there will definitely be an excess of qualified people out there, I have no doubt that there will be some really strong competition...it's a shame there are so few spots for qualified people who want to enter an occupation that is in dire need of more people...I keep on thinking that its important for me to remember this moment if I manage to become an RN and explore how the lack of educators/preceptors present the main bottleneck into nursing...Something as simple as choosing to be a preceptor could make a huge difference in the level of opportunities available to future generations...As for me right now, I'm finding it nerve racking to know the selection committee has probably already decided who will or will not be getting an interview (our fates may have already been decided ) Has anyone had their references contacted? None of mine have...it worries me, even though I know many peoples references are never contacted.My fingers remain crossed for everyone...I would love to see you all face to face in the near future.
I feel like they would be contacting the references after the interview process. Think of how long it would take to contact the references for around 500 applicants. That's just my thoughts.
true bcastle, I do think they might contact the references if they were 50-50 about interviewing someone, but you're right, it will probably wait till post-interview.
Thats sort of too bad, my references are really fun to talk to...they both contacted me on the same day a couple of days ago and were so excited about the idea of being called by UBC...one's a firm believer in the power of positive thinking and kept on saying "send positive thoughts out to the world, and you'll get it"...its so sweet of her...its a shame that I'm a skeptical (not cynical) person who believes the outcome in a persons life path are more based on timing, planning, preparation, effort and randomness. Translation: if you do everything right and work hard it will improve the probability of good things happening, but is never a guarantee.
I have been reading blog and thought that I would check in and say hi. I have applied for the 2016 Sept intake. It is exciting that we will find soon. I have only applied to UBC. My gpa is average nothing wonderful, so I am hoping I did ok on the application.... It was a long application.
I wrote my supplement in essay/paragraph form. I wrote 7 - 250-300 word paragraphs and the essay was about 580 words. How did you do yours? I don't think there is a right way or wrong way as long as your skills are highlighted.
I have been reading blog for awhile and thought it was about time to say hi. I have been checking my email like crazy because I know a girl who applied and she found out last week that she didn't get in... So I guess no news is good news
