Joanne, your daughter did a double degree in nursing & psycology, i was very interested in being a forensic psychologist but the study requirements to register as a psychologist in SA is difficulty, you need to go on and do masters and then have supervised practice etc...will the nurses board in your state allow your daughter to register as a mental health nurse or register as a psychologist with her qualifications?? cheers :)

Hi,
She is half way through her 3rd year of 4 years study. If she wanted to pursue the psychology then she would also have to do further study to be able to register as a psychologist as you mentioned. So it is an option. She won't be able to register as a mental health nurse as the subjects are slightly different. At the moment she is looking at what different grad rotations are on offer with different hospitals as she would like to include a mental health rotation as part of her grad year. I don't think it leads to a specific career outcome like a double degree of nursing/midwifery, but she has really loved being able to study a psychology degree with her nursing degree. :wink2:
