im just curious as to what uni's every one went to or are still attending to. im currently half way through y 1st year at James Cook Uni in Townsville as a full time internal student
Currently in First year - sem 2 at University of Queensland. Excellent mix of prac and theory (prac 2 days per week from start of course with ALL of third year as a full time prac module).
If I get into nursing education, this would be the program I'd like to teach! I think the mix of clinical and theory is really important. In my B Nurs, we had no prac at all in the first semester (skills labs with dummies only), three weeks in second semester, four weeks in sem 1 and 2 in second year, 6 weeks sem 1 3rd year and all of sem 2 3rd year (but no theory this semester). The most I ever learnt was post-grad, when I was working full time and studying on line. I integrated my practise and my theory so much better, and it really made the theory stick. I love your uni!

Hi Deni!! We have probably been at the same lectures:coollook:....if you go!! I am first year nursing/midwifery double at UQ.
Hi Ausnurs2B
I go to the lectures on the Friday. How do you like your program?? I am kicking myself now that I did not do the double degree (I got into it) but at the time I just felt that 4 years was too long - plus I live west of Ipswich so it was a bit far to travel. Are you going to lectures this Friday?
Deni, I hate the course!! But I know I will come out with something great. Have you got your roster yet? We haven't. Every week it is the same old thing... got to have meetings with this person and that person... should be able to finalise it next week... then the week comes... no next week.... no next week It is not like the whole prac thing was last minute..... So, we should know "next week" Thursday to be exact when we are working starting the next Monday, and hope that my childcare centre will accomodate me... They seem very unorganised and don't communicate very well with us.
Hey Ausnurs(AM) and Deni, another 1st year UQ student here. I met Ausnurs on here before we started and then found out we were both doing the dual degree.
Deni I live out at Ipswich also, and nearly withdrew straight back into nursing when I found out (at the last minute) that we are based in Brisbane.
So are you both ready to give our first injections on Monday :smiley_abI can't beleive we're doing that already. I wanted to practice on hubby so I could get the feel for a real person instead of a sponge, but he wouldn't be in it.
Ohhh SCU. yeah same. I'm still there (Lismore). Lovely campus and some of the staff are fantastic.. but im sure there are better ways to organise and deliver nurse training. I feel like I'm not going to really learn nething till grad year. The best thing I've got out of SCU is the connection between students- everyone is there to support each other. We know we cant do it unless we work at it together. Its going to be heartbreaking to get out into the workforce and have to work with ppl who dont share that attitude, but its fantastic now.
Yep Ausnurse2B - MPH is a Masters in Public Health studying at UQ oops hope to finish Dec 2008 not 19998!
All dressed in white (shocking colour for nursing) - but SCU were the best days! I had placements back then through UNI at Lismore Base, St Vincents, Port Macquarie - unreal. Alot of SCU nurses working in Brisbane - mainly Queensland Health. Good training - highly recognised. I also nursed in the USA - didn't have to do make up hours in any areas not like the QUT uni.
frellyou

I'm at Usyd, first year Arts/Nursing. (Yes I know it adds a pointless extra year to my degree but the staff there were so nice I changed my mind at the last minute!)
