I want to work as a NURSE!!
Hello everyone! It has been ages since I have visited allnurses but now find that I have alot of time on my hands I have just finished my 3 years of uni... set to graduate on the 14th December, but find myself with no grad nurse positions being offered to me I really really want to work as an RN!!! So having missed out on a GNP position, what are the reputable agencies that I can apply to? Are there any other ways of getting a job as a nurse without experience?! :crying2: thanks Anne-Marie

Organizational Sheets.....What do you use?
We get one page for patient handover with all relevant details on it, then on the back divide it into blocks with patient down the side, then across the top is the times hourly. 700 800 900 1000 1100 1200 1300 etc Notes pt x pt y pt z then just fill in what needs doing for the hour per patient. I cross off what I have done as I go.

Australian STUDENTS
The double degree is an extra 12 months. The midwives up here in QLD are a bit hesitant towards the undergrad midwives because of what you said, but I think it depends on the uni as to what they learn, I think these days the uni's are expanding their teaching to include illness and pregnancy. Hi Beccy!

Student clinicals
Actually, I interpret the ACNM's code of professional conduct to incorporate this in Conduct Statement 10 "Nurses practise nursing reflectively and ethically" 4. Nurses contribute to the professional development of students and colleagues. However, it is always nice to be placed with a preceptor... they do know how to teach what we need to know! I am in Brisbane and am based at the Mater Hospital South Brisbane. The students in my group have not come across nurses and midwives who are nothing but accepting of students, always willing to give us a chance to participate.

Do you practice your skills on dummies/mannequins
As title says..... Or do you read about it then go out and practice, maybe for the first time, on real people. Things I am talking about are stuff like NG tube insertion, catheterisation etc. Thanks!

What equipment will I need?
Hi everyone! I am going into second year nursing as a student, and am thinking of equipment that I will need (other than my steth). What equip/supplies would you not be without? Is there anything that I should be supplying for myself? I will be in adults, but unsure exactly what area. Thanks. AM

what uni did we all go to
Deni, I hate the course!! But I know I will come out with something great. Have you got your roster yet? We haven't. Every week it is the same old thing... got to have meetings with this person and that person... should be able to finalise it next week... then the week comes... no next week.... no next week It is not like the whole prac thing was last minute..... So, we should know "next week" Thursday to be exact when we are working starting the next Monday, and hope that my childcare centre will accomodate me... They seem very unorganised and don't communicate very well with us.

Dr's code of ethics?
What do you think of this.... Not at the non-vaccination aspect... but of what the Dr has told the pt.. I find it unethical by the nursing code of ethics, but would it be also for a Dr?

Do you wear a wedder?
A rub over is where the diamond is set into the band.. it is a smooth feeling.... Thanks for the replies (and well wishes.. although it feels like we have been married fooooorreverrrrrr:lol2:)!

Do you wear a wedder?
Sooooo, it is my hubby's and I 10th wedding anniversary soon, and I have chosen the excuse of I need a new ring so I can wear to work (eventually). My engagement/wedding rings are claw set, so no way I could get by wearing them. I have told him it has to be set in rub over type... (really, he would buy me the world if he could afford it :redbeathe) Are their hospitals that flat out say no wedders to be worn? Could I wear something like a rub over? Do you wear your wedding ring?

How many and comparasion of schools offer degree of nursing in Australia?
IS there a place/state in particular that you are looking at, is it SA only? There are heaps of different state universities!! You can also do external when living in different states, but that means travelling to that campus for a week or two a once or twice a year. Out of the ones you have listed, I would go UniSA, Flinders then ACU and haven't really heard of the others..... and that is only going on knowing students from there.
