UNF Summer 2014 BSN hopefuls

Published

Hi everyone!

With the deadline only a little over a month away, I figured we all need a place to stress, hope and worry! I just took my first stab at the TEAS and hit the average score of the past few years (335). I have a 3.9 GPA. One pre-req left. Applying for ABSN. I'm scheduled for a second TEAS attempt next month. How is everyone else doing? Drooling over stats as much as I am?? Any interview preparation plans?

Admitted to the traditional track! I had originally applied for accelerated but went in knowing that I would be thrilled for either. I'm sad to hear about such great applicants getting denied and hope that somewhere else recognizes how wonderful you all are. Congrats to those who got in and everybody on the wait list, don't lose hope yet!

Great news!!! I'm so happy to see you guys accepted!! I'm right behind you one way or another! Wooooohooo!! :)

So i haven't received my letter yet, but it got updated on mywings. Can someone tell me what i have to do now that i am accepted?

You have to respond claiming your seat by the 24th. It gives the dates of orientIon and also says we will be given an email with further instructions :)

phlebogonenurse- I had that experience as well. I was super nervous as I have never interviewed for much before. I felt really intimidated not only by the interviewers but by the whole group interview as a whole. Also I want to know if anyone else had this experience- the first question we were asked was one that I was relatively unprepared for- "what should we know about you that isn't on your transcripts" Since I was unprepared for this question (which was a great question to let them know who you are) I probably would have let a few of the other students go before me, however- I was called out BY NAME to go first and that made me freak. I thought it would have been more relaxed, and ultimately that was the question that haunted me ever since the interview. Now obviously I'm not saying that I would have been accepted if not for being called to go first but I was so taken aback by the fact that I HAD to go first that my mind drew a blank and the other students had time to prepare answers more suited than mine was. I didn't really like that aspect of my interview. Other than that I'm still in love with UNF's program and will be applying for Fall. I just wanted to know if anyone else was called out by name to answer a question first if it wasn't their choice to answer first.

And again, congrats to everyone who was accepted. I won't give up, I know this is what I am supposed to do in life and won't stop until I succeed in completing that.

does anyone know what the "nursing lounge" is that Mrs.Batty posted a few pages back?

I wasn't called out by name, Vee, but I also tanked that question! Not because I didn't know what to say, but because I had so much I waged to say that I think I went with the weaker choice as I became more aware of myself. I was way too excited lol if I get the chance to interview again I think I might get some yoga in first lol. I typically interview very well but I have never been so excited about something in my life. I don't think that's a bad thing, but I do think I lost focus. But, what I know for sure is that it doesn't take away my smarts or potential skill, it just meant I let the gravity of the opportunity get the best of me! I believe we're all deserving. And I believe we will all get there ;)

I will fully admit I wish there was an essay with a prompt or something in addition to the interview - I think the high-pressure situation of the interview isn't favorable for all personality types and it would be nice to have another barometer of our fit that was easier to prepare for/revise/etc. UNF was my only application this go round, but I'll be applying for UNF/JU/maybe FSCJ for Fall as well, and I'm prepared to try again next Spring for the next round of the accelerated programs if need be. Thankfully I have a very supportive family and friend group, and they have been reminding me that this is just a setback, not an earth-crushing end of the world, lol.

Nursh - I hope you get in off the waitlist, but if you don't, you'll be applying for Fall at the Jax schools as well, right? If so we should chat about the applications/process/etc!

hey Veerose, I got called first on the last question since i was the only one applying for the traditional track and i agree.. I was nervous too and had to think of something quickly in short matter of time

What I did when i wasn't accepted the past 3 time was just took 1 year off school and volunteer since some schools look at that

Hi VeeRose,

I felt the same about that question. It was an excellent opportunity to tell everything necessary but I think I got too excited like HellooNursh and just about blanked out, lol. The question that really got me was "How did you end up at the decision of nursing?" like compared to your undergrad major or in general. The wording stunk and I couldn't get my point across and I dreaded it most when preparing prior to the interview.

Anyway, in response to being called by name, I would have been horrified. The way they made it seem before the interview did not hint at all that that would be the case so I'm curious if your interview group strayed from the norm. Really sorry to hear it went that way but I'm sure you responded better than you think. Sounds like you have the right mindset too. Now we know what to expect and you'll be ready for 'em next time.

Well I just accepted JU's invitation and sent an email to Beth declining my UNF invitation. So I know one spot will be open for wait listed applicants. I hope one of you folks on the wait list for UNF get my spot :)
