Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.

I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.

This year I applied to four Nursing Schools as first time applicant

I did all my immunizations, drug screening, and background check since I'm currently wait listed at another Nursing school---Samuel Merritt U. I guess I have to do my TB again since I did it back in 2012 and had a positive PPD 5mm... I'm not sure though if I need a 'fresh' skin test for nursing school?

As for the stethoscope and scrubs I am waiting until I get an admission before purchasing :)

That's okay fffnpsp15 :)

afowler77 you'd be good at nursing, biology, whatever you do! But again, thanks so much for the breakdown. I was able to talk to employee health and they said I would be able to get my TB done there sometime this week. They also have records of some of my immunizations, though I'm not so sure about the MMR and varicella. I'm thinking that will have to be from my primary care physician.

I'm glad we've got the holiday between decisions and the start of school. I've asked for some of the supplies for Christmas haha!

afolwer77, definitely thanks for the immunization breakdown. I have all of these shots (even got a flu vaccine at work recently, yay), but I need to find my shot record...it's traveled around the globe with me, and I'm not 100% sure it made it back here... I guess I can get titers, but that would be a PITA. Do you know if I'll have to get two TB tests if I've had a positive one already or if I can just skip straight to the chest x-ray?

I hesitate to get too much done before I'm accepted...I know it's silly and I'll be rushing in December, but I don't want to jinx it!

If you have had a positive PPD you always will so there is no sense in getting another one. A chest xray report, less than 5 years old is the accepted alternative.

Regarding immunizations.....the Maryland Hospital Association requires all nursing students doing clinicals at their hospitals (which is pretty much all of them) to have the same set of immunizations. So, if you are admitted to any nursing school in the state of Maryland, you will have the same requirements. There is no reason to wait. afowler77 has been giving some terrific advice on this thread.

Agreed, Grey Lady! afowler77 has provided us a plethora of information. Without her, most of us would be in the dark, regarding the admissions process. I'm really glad she is a part of this thread.

I'm also thankful you've joined us as well! Like most of us here, I'm new to this process and with members like you and afowler77, we get a small glimpse into how it all works. It definitely helps reassure us!

Thanks Greylady! That's a timesaver.

I just received an invite to interview for the CNL program. Anyone's participated in the UMSON interview before? Please what do I need to expect? Any tips will help.

I am thankful for this thread and the support... Just as much information!!!

I am still deciding what day to chose for next week. :)

I wish the BSN program did interviews. You can't get to know us by our application! Good luck fffnpsp15!

You may want to join the UMSON CNL for Spring 2015 thread though..they may have more information. And check the past posts.

I've been keeping up with this thread so i figured it was about time to join. I am eagerly awaiting a phone call from UMSON, I wish everyone the best of luck.

AP123 welcome to the thread! :D Which program are you going for?
