Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.
I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.
A great question! I know for UMSON we will need to get scrubs (white top, khaki bottom), a stethoscope, BP cuff, patches, and a watch with a second hand. afowler77, is there anything I'm missing? Also, I don't exactly know the number of scrubs will be needed.
Oh, I don't get your supplies just yet though! Keep saving and then buy when you get accepted!
Everything that littlemango said, and a lab coat, patches (they sell them to you at orientation,) and a penlight. You need shoes that are white all over. Sneakers are fine, as long as they are white. The other students recommended white leather sneakers. (Easier to clean than canvas.) At orientation, they give students a gear bag, full of medical supplies. And then there are the books...the most expensive part of school! If you don't already have a laptop, now is the time to get one. As I recall, students with Apple computers seemed to have some compatibility issues with websites and software. Not sure if this is still the case. There was also a medical records software program that is required, but they tell you the where and how of purchasing it.

Shady Grove students can buy all their supplies at Orientation. We bring in vendors with samples and take orders which are shipped to Shady Grove. That is not done on the Baltimore campus. Uniforms, patches, nametags, stethescopes, etc. can be purchased at the UMB book store. Except for the patches and nametags, everything may be purchased any where you can find it.
