Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.

I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.

I know the change in status doesn't change anything on our end, but for those of us that this is our very first time applying to nursing school it IS quite exciting and an exhilarating process. I am well aware the results are out of my hands/control at this point; all ducks are lined up.

Hi Grey Lady,

My status haven't changed , its still says complete ready for review. Does this mean, they still haven't looked at it? And does the ID

indicate anything in terms of turns?

Your status does not mean anything to you - it is an internal tracking system used by the admissions office to see where your application is in the procedure. Because all admissions announcements are made at the same time, it does not matter whether you are at Committee Ready now, next week or next month. What you are waiting for is to see it turn into Admit Institution or Provisional Admit, which means you have been accepted. (Provisional Admit just means you are accepted but have outstanding transcripts for courses you are taking now.) And your ID number is the number next in line when your application was received electronically. It does not mean anything either.

Hi,

Does anyone know if they accept a student with 6 prerequisites in progress? None of them are the core science courses. I have a very high GPA, but i am afraid this might throw me of the list.

Thanks for the info Grey Lady!

hopeful 2015, are you taking your six prerequisites this semester? Also, if I remember correctly, there was someone from a previous thread that also stayed Complete and Ready for Review up until acceptances were given out. So even if it doesn't change, that doesn't mean that they never looked at your application! And yes, like vigor145 said, it is very exciting on our end since this is our first time going through the admission process. Personally, I feel a rush when I check my status. Quite exhilarating! :specs: However, afowler77 doesn't have such a bad idea there! There is really nothing we can do at this point! But while we wait, instead of living in the SURFs website, we should instead focus on what we need to do this semester to ensure our grades will be good enough to enter the program next semester! Get busy! Maintain grades, see primary care physicians (immunizations), and start looking for scholarship opportunities! During all of this, time will fly and November will finally be here!

Haha sorry about all of my exclamation marks everyone, I just get too excited when I talk. :D

That is a question for admissions. I thought that the maximum was 5 but maybe since none of them are the sciences you are OK. You should call.

Thank you for easing my mind Grey Lady,

Littlemango, yes I am taking all the six right now. I just started freaking out when I saw all the changes in people's status and was worried. Checking what is going on around has definitely taken away time from my school work. I will just have to patiently wait for the end. Good Luck everyone

Thank you, Grey Lady, for backing up what I said earlier!

And yes, like littlemango said, now is the time to focus on other important things. If we won't be receiving a decision for another month, that is one entire month to focus on our current classes. This is also a good time to begin your hepatitis B vaccinations. You need to have the first 2 by orientation. And the first 2 vaccinations are given at least a month apart. Now is the time to track down your vaccine records or to have titers done, to prove immunity to varicella, measles, mumps, and rubella. We also need a current tetorifice vaccine. We need to have two negative TB tests, done at least a week apart. If you end up with a positive TB test, you will need to go for an x-ray. Then, there is the matter of CPR. If you won't be current by the beginning of the semester, now is the time to find a class.

Another thing to keep in mind is that, for the first round of those accepted, it will be very close to Thanksgiving. Then, if you are waitlisted, you get closer to Thanksgiving, then Christmas. I can tell you from first-hand experience that many offices take A LOT of time off and work shorter hours during the month between Thanksgiving and New Year's. And it was no fun to spend my holidays last year, filling out paperwork, and begging for last-minute appointments. Sure, it is possible to squeak by just in time, but wouldn't you rather be able to relax and enjoy that time?

We can begin searching for scholarships now, as well. And if you have any other loose ends that need to be wrapped up, now is the time to tackle them. I'm talking about things you won't have time to do in nursing school. Organize your closet, go to the dentist, get those new tires on your car, visit your grandma... If you're going to be moving, you can start looking for a place to live. School starts in 3 1/2 months. That is not that far away! Those who start in the fall have a 3-month turnaround time to prepare. For the spring applicants, we have about two months, and that two months includes all the winter holidays. Now is the time for us to become our most organized, efficient versions of ourselves we can possibly be!

afowler77, you're awesome! Thanks for giving a breakdown on those immunizations! I'll be getting an appointment soon. :geek:

afolwer77, definitely thanks for the immunization breakdown. I have all of these shots (even got a flu vaccine at work recently, yay), but I need to find my shot record...it's traveled around the globe with me, and I'm not 100% sure it made it back here... I guess I can get titers, but that would be a PITA. Do you know if I'll have to get two TB tests if I've had a positive one already or if I can just skip straight to the chest x-ray?

I hesitate to get too much done before I'm accepted...I know it's silly and I'll be rushing in December, but I don't want to jinx it!

'little mango' Good afternoon,

Sorry I don't have answers to your question! Myself am a first time applicant to UMSON for their CNL program SP 2015. My status currently says 'Committee ready' and unsure what its about. Please let's keep posted

As of last spring, they told me the TB tests had to be done within the past 12 months of the start of school.

Nah, you won't jinx yourself! :) You'll just be ahead of the game! That said, I'm still waiting to do things like buy supplies. I don't want to shell out the money for a BP cuff or stethoscope until I know if I got in. Because, if not, I'll be pursuing a Biology degree and won't need any of that.
