Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.

I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.

Since I can't post a response to all the comments that were posted in the past few days, I'll sum it up with this: OH THE STRESS!!! It's nice to know that I am not the only one who feels crazy for having consider all the options and who goes nuts in the process. Trying to map out a future in nursing school is like looking at some wonky, illogical flowchart! I mean, the end result is that we all want to be RN's. But to get there, we have to take these classes for this school, andthose classes for that school. But this is due for one deadline and that is due for that deadline, and then there's the overlap of acceptance timelines, and the chance we'll have to pay for a seat at the first school that accepts it, only to give up that several hundred dollars a few weeks later, when we get into our first choice school. Not that any of us can afford that, but if we don't pay it, then we run the risk of not going to school anywhere. Then there's financial aid... Oh my goodness! Listen, I know that nursing school is going to be the hardest thing we ever do, but after the application process and all of our hard work just to get to that point, it's starting to feel like nursing school will be a little bit of a relief after all this stress!

ACK!

Specializes in NICU.

lol..and it doesn't get easier after nursing school..then you have to find a job :(...

My guesstimate was 20-25k from the tuition and fee list on the website, but to be honest I'm not sure about which courses/credits have lab and clinical hour fees, so I'm not sure exactly what it would be. It would be nice if they just totaled everything by semester, since we all have to take the same classes.

littlemango, I just got an email from my professor! He said that he emailed the recommendation letter in today. I hope they take it. :(

Yeah usedtobecool84, it would be nice if they they did that. It'd be nice if it were closer to $20k, so I'd have enough to borrow in loans! To my understanding, I can only borrow up for $31,000. I could be wrong, though.

gummycoco I hope they do too! :x3:

Hey all,

Just wanted to clarify something. Earlier, I said to contact Ms. Shannel Watson to check about your In-State Tuition Forms. Don't do that. Haha. The admissions office did tell me to contact her about the forms, but this is the message she sent me:

Good Morning,

You can contact the Registrars’ office to check the status and receipt date, the office of admissions does not process this form and any instate forms that are received are forwarded over to the Registrars’ office. The number to the registrars office is 410-706-7480

Thank you

Shanell Watson

Hm, to my understanding I thought it'd be 20-25K as well. I took a look at the costs and had to add stuff up since there's no direct total cost shown. I'm debating on whether or not I should apply to JHU because their tuition (full-time) is 60K! And that's just for 13 months... x__x

Regarding financial aid though - will the school tell us how much we can borrow after we've been accepted? I submitted my FAFSA a while back, but not sure how this all works. Can anyone clarify?

Thanks!

Whoa! Although I think the program at JHU is absolutely excellent, I don't know if I could handle 60k in debt! Haha... And I'm with you on the financial aid process. I'm sure the school will tell us how much we can borrow directly. Though, I'm not going to start working on that until I get a definite yes from the program (either UMSON or Towson), but I'm absolutely sure (as I have called) that there will be people in the financial aid dept. to help us! Like afowler77 said, it'll probably be easier to do than we think at the moment!

Also, thanks for the update happymochi! :x3: I was just thinking about called the contact earlier in the week, as I haven't yet, so I'm glad you let us know now!

happymochi! I am also debating whether or not I should apply to JHU, mainly because of the tuition. It is a great program but I don't know how I would feel about borrowing so much in loans or if they would even give me that much. Anyways, my application finally says Complete and Ready for Review!! So excited :) Thank you all for your kind words.

I'm a little upset because they still have not logged my resume as received. I emailed it to them Sept. 2nd so I am hoping they still have it. They emailed me an automated email saying my application was incomplete at this time. I emailed them today and told them when I sent it and what the subject of the email was. They better find it lol. This is making me nervous!

Yeah katiep_123 keep checking your emails! However, I'm not sure if by the deadline being Sept. 2nd that they want everything by Sept. 2nd or everything must be sent in by the end of the day. Depending on the two, they probably will or will not consider your email with resume sent that day. BUT PLEASE keep us updated! We're all hoping for the best! :)

If you emailed them Sep. 2, that's by the deadline. They received my last LOR on 9/3 (was mailed the week before-so the postmark was good), and they posted it on Friday. They are usually pretty good with email, but they could also just be swamped and have a backlog of documents to go through from everyone who sent stuff the last day. I'd give them a couple days and then try calling if it doesn't post.
