Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.
I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.
happymochi I know! I was hoping to see you! But that's okay, maybe there will be an event where both schools mesh? Oh! And thanks for the contact! I turned in my in-state form a few weeks ago after they sent it back to me for missing information. I'll need to make sure they got it because I don't think they inform you by email if they got it or not! (Unless, if you're like me, you forget to put some information...)
Does anyone have information on the financial aid process? And have any idea how much support they typically award their students ?
FutureNurse22494 I was wondering if you could let us know what the process was like for you. I'm curious as well! (And any other current students out there?)
They just use the same application, and I didn't have to re-submit anything. None of the courses I"m taking this semester are UMSON pre-req's, but I'll still need to send my transcript at the end of the semester.
UMSON is so awesome and organized, that THEY emailed ME to ask if I wanted them to use my application for the spring. All I had to do was respond with an emphatic YES! UMSON is my top choice, for so many reasons. I'll settle for nursing school anywhere, at this point, but I am hoping that I get "The Call" from UMSON.
UMSON makes financial aid easy. As long as you have a current FAFSA, there isn't much youi have to do. You just let the financial aid office do their thing. You check your SURFS account to see if they need any additional documentation, and submit it by the deadlines. Other than that, I didn't have to do anything! They moved at the speed of light, too, considering all of this was during the week between Christmas and New Year's. I had also made sure to submit my proof of residency with my application, so they already had everything they needed from me. Too bad I couldn't use any of this and had to start all over again!
Oh afowler77 that is a relief! At FCC (and you may know this haha) it is such a hassle working on getting financial aid stuff done. I'm finally about leave FCC (hopefully) and I just figured out how to do everything without having some unwelcome surprises popping up. The thought of having to learn to do everything again at another school was making me nervous. Good to know!
That is great afowler77! I think the application process is more of a headache than anything- gathering recommendation letters and re-submitting scores.
Thanks for the information in regards to financial aid too. I'm really hoping that I get something. That is the one thing I really liked about the community college. I qualified for so much financial aid that my associates was practically free. I already have a student loan from my first degree, and I really don't want another.

For those who may interested, the application deadline has been extended for the RN-BSN program to October 1st. I'm not totally sure if they extended the deadline for traditional students, but I would think they would have also. Also, the only clinical requirement for the program is for class 467, the public health course, and they will work with you to set up your practicum. In addition, even if you are applying for the online option you have the option to also attend face to face classes. The director of the program said that you are strictly applying for the RN-BSN program but you can choose any class that is being offered.

Hi katiep_123: Yes, I turned my In-State Status Form in. You can contact Ms. Shannel Watson [email protected] to make sure that your form was received.
Littlemango: Haha, no problem! :) And aw shucks, would've been nice to see you on the Baltimore campus! I'm actually closer to Baltimore, but yeah, I'm not too familiar with the area. But oh well, it'll be a learning experience! It'd be awesome if I could move down into the city though. Anyway, I wish you lots of luck girlie!!! :)
