Who is applying?
No, I didn't find out how much money I was getting until a few weeks later. SURFS is the means by which Financial Aid communicates with students. They basically have a formula to determine student expenses, like tuition, room & board, transportation, meals, books, uniform. I can say tuition was not very expensive, but it'll be the other expenses you'll have, like rent or any other personal bills, that are what make school expensive, especially if you're not going to work while in school.
I got accepted on Dec. 11 and orientation was Jan. 9/10. All this was done over Christmas and New Year's, when they were closed for a few days. I wonder what the timeframe is for fall classes, since there's so much time in between acceptance decisions and orientation.
Huge congrats Beachgirl124, and everyone who has recieved their news! I love seeing you get what you've been working towards!
For whatever reason I can't check my status from anywhere but my home computer! Luckily my professors are all so sweet and let me keep my ringer on for my classes! Looking forward (and staying hopeful) that I'll be giving you guys good news that I got in! That'd be the cherry on top of an already awesome academic week of A's on all my exams and papers.
I think last semester she said Shady Grove takes around 10-20 on the wait list. They usually accept I believe 45-55 students. - Under the assumption Baltimore takes almost double the amount of students SG does, I'd assume 1.5x to 2x the amount of wait listed students.Being on the wait list last year, if there was an order, we didn't find out about it. The office wouldn't tell us where we are on the wait list, I suppose because they don't know how many people are going to give up their seats. That being said wait list only moves up or down the list if someone gives up their seat. I was wait-listed last semester and did not get in. That is not to say anyone didn't get off the wait list, there were about 4 students or so on the board that did get offered a seat!
Once the first wave of offers go out, accepted students have two weeks to declare whether they are accepting the offer or not. For every one who rejects our offer, someone on the Wait List will receive an offer. Also, someone on the Wait List can elect to withdraw their application. More transcripts will come in. In short, there cannot be an ordered Wait List because the candidates are always changing in both numbers and revised qualifications. All Wait List candidates are reviewed again to decide which ones will receive an offer. Then they have two weeks to decide and we keep going until the classes are filled. In addition, accepted students will, for one reason or another, decide not to come after all. At that point we go back to the Wait List again. So it is not that the admissions office will not tell you where you are on the list - it's that they are simply unable to. We cannot predict how many will be taken from the Wait List but it is usually 10 to 20 at Shady Grove and twice that in Baltimore.
So, if any of you out there get an offer you are not going to accept - please turn it down asap so we can offer your seat to someone who is desperately waiting for it.
Hey everyone,
I got my call that I'm in about an hour ago. I checked my status online also and it says Admit-Institution. I am flabbergasted! I hope you all hear back soon and that it is good news. It has been a long wait but just hang on, I think they are supposed to be making calls all week and maybe even next week.

Tuition...I can't remember exactly what the costs were, when I was anticipating starting this spring. They did a fantastic job at getting financial aid to go through, and they did it so quickly! I give UMSON a lot of credit for their stellar financial aid department. But still, it wasn't quite enough to cover everything. So now is the time to start applying for scholarships. Or working two jobs over the summer...
This is a link to the detailed information on their website: http://www.fincsvc.umaryland.edu/sa/images/nurs.pdf
That is info for the 13-14 school year, for the Baltimore campus. Keep in mind that these are per semester.
Also- BIG WARNING HERE: start looking into health insurance now! The school offers good insurance (CareFirst, same as what I have through my job now) but it is EXPENSIVE! And if you have a family, you might as well start selling your kidneys now to pay for it. Because I had only a few weeks to pull it all together (which is one reason it all fell apart) I was going to settle for insurance through the school. But now that I potentially have 4 1/2 months, I am going to start shopping around for reasonable insurance NOW.
I'll look through my notes from back in January to see if I have any helpful info to share. If you've been accepted, you will be receiving your acceptance packet soon. You'll need to pay the $400 deposit within 2 weeks of the date on the letter. All the forms you'll need will be in there. Financial aid doesn't really ask for anything, especially if you've already completed your FAFSA. I had a few things to return because I have a family. The aid part was easy. Once you get in, they contact you and tell you exactly what you need to do. They make it really easy to figure out what needs to get done. So, just keep checking your mailboxes for that packet.
