Hello all, I am planning to apply to UMSON in the fall 2016. I haven't seen a thread yet for other hopefuls and potential candidates. So I wanted to start one.
I don't know if this helps at all but I was accepted two weeks ago and had to have my stuff sent in by today or my spot would be given up so I'm sure that of stuff is due by today, the number of people who don't send stuff they get a number of spots they still have left to send acceptances? That's my guess of how it works.
Yup that's right, you get 2 weeks to mail back the letter with your answer (and your deposit if attending). Once the 2 weeks are up and you haven't responded, you automatically lose your spot. Though I'll be honest and say that I think many people do accept their seats. I don't think they have a huge turnover, even with admissions taking forever to update statuses and everything. I know I paid my deposit and mailed my letter the day after I received it, and I think many people do it soon after they receive it. And I also think you have the people that have already accepted a seat somewhere, but will give it up for UM if they get in.
It helps a lot actually! Thanks for sharing :).I do wonder how they are able to put applicants on the Wait List so early even before others (like you all still waiting) get their decisions? I thought the Wait List was due to there not being enough spots for qualified applicants. Maybe they just tell us that to make us feel better haha. Being on the Wait List probably just means we're not as competitive as other qualified applicants, not that there aren't enough spots. Just a thought.
This is honestly a very concerning part of their "process". It is very concerning that they put people on the wait list when they openly admit that they still have not even reviewed everyone. When they say that the wait list means that you are qualified but there was X number of people more qualified that earned a slot over you, it makes perfect sense... but when they put you on a wait list before everyone has been reviewed... You have to question the integrity of the process. How can you be less qualified than someone they haven't even reviewed yet? This just goes against what UMSON staff have said about the wait list the last few years. It makes more sense to put off telling people they are on the wait list to the very end.
Interesting observation you brought up. I didn't even think that you (Kayrock) being on the waitlist while others still haven't even been reviewed yet was a little weird. My guess is this: maybe they do the reviews in batch, and you have been waitlisted against the students reviewed in that specific batch. I could be wrong, but I hope they have a good reason to waitlist you when others still haven't heard back.
I had the same thought @Rprillwitz, and I guess that's not what it means?
Seems like they're taking calls now, so maybe one of you can call and ask about this.

Exactly! I completely agree with you. Although it does make sense what Quiet Sunshine said about being in batches... But like you said, why would they place applicants on the Wait List before everyone gets reviewed. Makes more sense to wait until all acceptances have been released then inform people they are on the Wait List because of no more room left.
...On a more positive note: Congrats Future RNDNP!! :)
Hi all! Been following this thread for a while and today I finally got my decision--wait listed. After waiting so long kinda sad with the result. But I had a question for those who are wait listed, do I have to send a email or call in that i would like to remain on the list? Or do I just continue to wait until i get a notification? I was unsure what I am suppose to do after getting waitl isted.
Hi I just found out that I got wait listed today. As long as it's not rejected than I still have a chance of getting in but when will they no longer take people from the wait list? Also, if I do get accepted, will there be an interview? I picked Shady Grove in my application but if Shady Grove is filled up would they still place me in the Baltimore campus? Thank you.

Hey Susie, sorry you got waitlisted! They're supposed to reach out to you by email and letter that will show you the next steps. I think you're supposed to confirm that you do want to remain on the waitlist or something of that kind. But some people in this thread who have been waitlisted have said that they haven't gotten anything yet from admissions yet, so it might take a while.
Did you have a back up school?

I am on the Wait List as well and they sent me a letter via mail a week after my status changed instructing me to email them to confirm you want to stay on the Wait List. You should be receiving your letter soon enough.

From my understanding, there is no telling exactly when they will stop taking in people from the Wait List because we don't know how many acceptances will be declined or when they are declined. I would assume once all the seats are filled for sure is when they send out an email stating that you were not pulled off and will need to either forward your application to the next term or submit an entirely new application, depending on how many times you applied already. This was the process last application cycle but I'm not sure if it's the same this time around.
