Hello all, I am planning to apply to UMSON in the fall 2016. I haven't seen a thread yet for other hopefuls and potential candidates. So I wanted to start one.
PROVISIONAL ADMIT for Baltimore!! And I got an A in the class I had pending. So happy.Do I wait for stuff in the mail to send my decision and deposit?
See the rest of you soon and good luck to those still waiting.
Congrats!! It was worth the wait indeed! You will have to wait for your letter in the mail to confirm your acceptance and pay your deposit, so be on the lookout for that!
From my understanding, there is no telling exactly when they will stop taking in people from the Wait List because we don't know how many acceptances will be declined or when they are declined. I would assume once all the seats are filled for sure is when they send out an email stating that you were not pulled off and will need to either forward your application to the next term or submit an entirely new application, depending on how many times you applied already. This was the process last application cycle but I'm not sure if it's the same this time around.
Even though there is not a specific time where they will stop taking people from the waitlist, I think if you don't hear from them by the end of July, there's a good chance you haven't been pulled off the waitlist. Because there's a bunch of requirements due before orientation in mid August, and there's no way anyone can do them with so little time left. Whoever declines his/her seat at the last minute will simply not be replaced I think.
Yeah I think you're right because I remember seeing somewhere in a past thread someone said make sure to give up your seat ASAP if you decide not to/cannot attend UMSON because if you wait until the last minute people who could have been offered a seat are shiz out of luck, for lack of better word .
Gah, I'm staying optimistic but more importantly, realistic.
*Unless you want to start getting ready as if you WERE admitted... but it may be a waste if you end up not getting into the program. There may be some things that you won't be able to do currently that only admitted students can do though.... It's all based on whether you want to take that gamble or not.
Now that I'm in, I wanted to say a quick word to anyone who is still trying to get in, or reading this thread planning to apply in the future:
Do not get too caught up in all of the speculation regarding how the committee makes their decisions. They truly do take your entire application into account, and it's simply not possible for anyone to speculate what your "chances are" based on your stats. For example, I was told, and have read on here that unless you have at least an 'x' GPA, the committee will not even review your application. I actually do not even have a 3.0 cumulative gpa. However I have good experience, strong recommendations, a strong resume, and did other things on my own make my application exceptional. They accept applicants from 2.9 all the way to 4.0 There is no cut and dry system, which is to your advantage.
My point being, try your hardest and do everything you can to strengthen your application, but DO NOT sell yourself short because your GPA isn't perfect.
Hope this helps.
I just received a call from Ms. Rodriguez - She said "no news is good news" and that those who are still committee ready are still being weighed for seats. She said this is the largest application pool they've ever had and that it's been tough to make decisions. They're hopeful to have all applications done by next week but of course "no guarantees". So those of us who are still committee ready - WE BETTER BE GETTING SEATS!
Looks like you made it! Congrats!!

As a waitlisted student, you can do your immunization and CPR certification, but not much else.
