UMSON CNL SPRING 2020

Did anybody apply for UMSON CNL Spring 2020?

Thank you. My account still say complete. I called and was told that my application is still under review.
I got into GW and I accepted the offer. It will give me more options for clinical degree rather than admin. I am not too sold out for nurse leader as I hope one day to do a PhD as nurse anesthesia but CNL does not give that flexibility.

Curious how you are able to afford GW? Thinking of applying there.

ABSN at GWU is 15month, 60 credits while CNL at UMSON is 24month with over 90 credits, if you do the calculations. UMSON is over $900 per credit hour. Scholarships may not pay up to half. Each school have ways of funding for financial assistance for students.

Also the salary difference between the two is small

i would prefer less burg pike commute to Baltimore traffic

GW seems like the better choice by far.

Specializes in CNL.

@Femisola The CNL program is actually 65 credit hours at about $800 per credit (In-state). You can view the fall/spring plan of study here https://www.nursing.umaryland.edu/academics/grad/clinical-nurse-leader/ It's just not an accelerated program like GW. In addition you can also use up to 250, I believe of your clinical hours to put towards a future DNP/PhD program at UMSON in the future if you choose to purue a higher degree, so it actually creates quite a few clinical options. The CNL exam is simply another exam you have option to sit for upon completion of the program in addition to sitting for the NCLEX and receiving an RN license as you would through any ABSN/BSN program. So this just offers another career path or opportunity to pursue if you choose to. I does not limit your job prospects to the CNL position only.

That being said, I have heard amazing things about GW, so congrats on your acceptance! I just wanted to clarify in case other were contemplating the idea of the CNL program.

Hi there! I'm actually a student in the CNL program at UMSON. Upon completion of the program you still have to take the NCLEX exam (in addition the CNL exam if you want to be certified as a CNL).

With the MSN degree following the program, and RN certification following the NCLEX, you will still have the option of working as a bedside nurse! Matter of fact, most graduates end up working as an RN to gain some experience. And yes! A lot of students from the program end up applying to the various NP programs offered here too.

Bottom line is, being a part of this program doesn't restrict you to the other roles in nursing. It's ultimately up to you to decide! It is intensive, but it's rewarding ?

Keep in mind that with any BSN program - there is a limit in how much federal financial aid [federal loan money] that can be given. This is extremely important when it comes to loan forgiveness programs - as most programs will only forgive federal loans. This in mind...if you get into the washington squared program then I would suggest going to GW [as it will be a cheaper program]. Also keep in mind since Maryland is a state funded school - there are more opportunities for scholarships

I was a little bit upset that they put me on a waiting list and not giving admission for the spring semester. I had to travel for my interview because I needed this CNL program. I am an International student paying everything out of pocket, but I didn't mind spending almost $500 to show how desperate I was for this program and returning to my base that same day because I had a class.

@annorieswild

I definitely empathize, I was waitlisted as well. Hoping that everyone that declines their acceptance please let the admissions office know as soon as you can!

i researched what I wanted to do and the bsn gives me more options.
