Quick question. What exactly would a clear liquid diet consist of for a 5 month old dx with vomiting, dehydration? I mean doesn't seem like there would be a lot of options. :/

Well what do you think? Is there a clear liquid marketed specifically to combat pediatric dehydration? Not Gatorade which is laden with sugars and colors.

It would consist of pretty much one thing. Marketed for this very specific purpose.
The only thing I can think of is maybe jello or apple sauce. but for a five month old, I'm not really sure. Can't really find anything besides opinions when researching. Also seems like no one has a real answer or a good reference. Smh
Jello--colored sugar water with gelatin. Zero electrolytes. But it's clear.
Can you see through applesauce? Nope? Not a clear liquid. And not for vomiting. Applesauce is part of the old school BRATT diet for non-infectious diarrhea Bananas Rice Applesauce Tea and (white) Toast bulking agents to bulk up fast moving watery BMs. Not appropriate for infants. The current recommendation is hold off solids until 6+ months when possible
What haooens in vomiting? Especially in a five month old infant. What is their fluid volume level? What critical ions are lost during vomiting and dehydration? Hint high of low potassium can kill someone.
Rather than give you the answer I googled "clear liquid to treat infant dehydration". The answer is NOT water. Read this:
Infant Dehydration: Enemy Number One
Also seems like no one has a real answer or a good reference. Smh

Now tell us what your research and text book has revealed to you ad we will be happy to help.
Apple sauce isn't a clear liquid and 5 month olds don't generally eat apple sauce yet.
I am fairly certain that everyone responding to this thread knows the real answer but we are trying to get you to think. Have you ever seen a commercial for a product designed for pediatric dehydration? Hint... for PEDIAtrics... contains electroLYTEs.

As for the point about limited options, remember a 5 month old is on a pretty limited diet anyway. They eat mostly breast milk or formula, maybe a little pureed food for learning to eat from a spoon. They won't be complaining about having nothing to drink except for that commercial pediatric electrolyte drink.
What about water? Do you know why that would be a bad thing to give an infant?
