UMD CNL FALL 2018

Published

Hi guys! I know it's a little early... but just wanted to start a thread for those who are applying to the UMD CNL program for fall of 2018. I just submitted my application!

Valeciacave - to answer your question, my application was "committee ready" for about 4-6 weeks I think before I was invited for an interview. I honestly can't exactly remember...it did feel like forever though!

I applied very early in November and had my interview this morning! It seemed to go well...but I don't want to get my hopes up. I'm so anxious!

My application status was just changed to 'Committee Ready.' How long did it take you all to hear back about interviews once your status changed to that?

I am so nervous! Wishing everyone luck!

Also, does anyone mind sharing by CNL over BSN?

I think it took about 4 to 6 weeks after it was committee ready to hear back and be invited for an interview. You asked about the CNL over the BSN; my take is that students in both the BSN and CNL programs emerge with the skills of a bedside nurse, but as a master's level program, CNL takes things to another level as far as teaching students/nurses to look at evidence-based approaches to patient safety, patient care, etc. The way it was said by the director at the open house in November is that the CNL program trains nurses to look at problems and challenges in the patient care setting in a new way, to find better ways of doing things. In a more practical sense, the CNL program means that you can eventually sit for the Clinical Nurse Leader exam, which is something you cannot do if you have not graduated from a CNL program.

Hello

Do not loose hope!! My undergrad GPA was really low but I was able to take recent pre req classess that pulled my GPA up to a 3.467. Remember they are looking at the total package and not just GPAs. Maybe in your essay you wrote about you desire to be a nurse and that made you stand out. My application was just changed to Committee Ready. Like Juliet said I think they are doing the application process in waves.

Remain optimistic and work really hard to get an A on you microbio class.. You got this!!!

YEA!! I was just invited for an interview!!! I am beyond elated.. Now to prepare for the interview and essay.

Specializes in Oncology.

My recommendation just got in last week and I am complete and ready for review! I am SO nervous! People who have had interviews: do you mind sharing stats? I have an undergrad GPA of 3.55 and a pre-req GPA of 3.73, with A&P II to be completed this May.

Committee Ready! They're reviewing my application now!

Hello JulietMei,

How was your interview? I figure I should prepare myself on why I chose the CNL program, some goals and reviewing my essay.

Does anyone have any advice in preparation for the writing sample? It seems like the time restraint is the biggest challenge!

Other than the fact that I was very nervous, I enjoyed it. I think what you say above about what you are doing to prepare is just right.

Yes, for me, the biggest challenge was figuring out what I wanted to say and getting it down in a clear and logical manner in the time allowed.

Out of curiosity, for those who have already received a notification for an interview, does UMD SON typically send the email in the morning or afternoon?
