UMD CNL FALL 2018

Published

Hi guys! I know it's a little early... but just wanted to start a thread for those who are applying to the UMD CNL program for fall of 2018. I just submitted my application!

hi everyone! my status/decision changed to "committee ready" as of yesterday. i currently work at ummc and can see the nursing building from my unit. i think that keeps me hopeful lol a lot of my coworkers have gone through the program, are currently in the program or are currently in the dnp program (which i hope to do the second i finish the cnl program!). i have high hopes for all of us!

I submitted my application around January 10th and heard back a few days ago offering an interview! I am nervous for this writing prompt though. Anyone written it and have advice on how to prepare?

I just did my writing assignment. Let me tell you: that half hour goes fast! You are given the choice of three topic areas, but don't know the prompt until you click on it, and that is when the time starts. It reminded me a lot of when I took the SAT writing section as a senior in high school. That said, I tried to remind myself that I am applying for a nursing program and not a master's degree in writing program, so I basically worked on being clear, concise, and using good grammar.

That's great advice! I've heard from previous applicants that the essay was very overwhelming. Still hoping I hear back soon about an interview. I applied in end of December. Still trying to figure out what these programs are specifalooking for in an applicant.

Totally agree! I felt as if one minute I started writing and the next minute I looked up and only had 5 minutes left! Eekk! No idea how I did haha

Same! Ugh roughly about how many words was anyone able to get in? Time goes by so fast!

I think the most overwhelming thing about the essay is that you have a half hour to come up with ideas, organize them, and write them. Very different from writing admissions essays, where you can work on them over time and draft, edit, and redraft to get as close to perfect as possible.

I have my interview tomorrow. Wish me luck! I am nervous, but at the same time, excited to be able to talk directly and personally to faculty members. Anyone else already have theirs?

Hi Juliet

I had mine this morning - I think it went well! Good luck to you, I'm sure you'll be great!

hi guys

I know that most of you are starting to receive acceptances and interviews, my application has said" committee ready" for about two weeks now, so does that mean I should be getting an answer soon ? I submitted my complete application on jan. 18.

also, does science GPA count? I have a feeling that my science GPA might affect me in a bad way( mine is a 2.8). I know that online it says the science GPA should be a 3.0, but when i went to the Open House in November, one of the admission ladies told me 2.7, so i am kind of nervous and confused that my science GPA will hold me back. My overall GPA is a 3.2, which i feel as if it is still low. I do still have to take microbiology, but it will be in the summer time and idk if that will be enough to boost my science GPA up to a 3.0.

im nervous i have been trying to get into nursing school ever since the begining of my college days which was 4 years ago. I just want someone to at least give me a chance

Hello! I feel your frustration. It is hard handing over a piece of paper with a number on it hoping it lets you in the door. My undergrad GPA is a 3.3, so like you, I don't feel that it is good enough. Luckily however my science GPA (I think what they count as a science GPA is Chem, AP 1&2, and micro) is a lot higher because I've been taking those classes outside of my undergrad. I've heard that the science GPA for Maryland is regularly looked at over the cumulative GPA. How long ago did you take those science GPA classes? Is it possible for you to change over some of those Bs or Cs into an A? My friend is trying to get into PT school and is experiencing the same issue.

I do hope you get an interview! Clearly this is something you are passionate about and could easily relay that across in an interview. Do not lose hope. I submitted my app in the end of December and still have not heard anything for an interview.

Hello! I got an invitation for an interview on the 12th and I've scheduled it for March 1st to have some time to practice interviewing. Apparently only 10% of applicants get an interview (they said this during an open house) so the hardest part is over for us! I have until midnight on Friday to do the writing portion and that's making me a little nervous. Hope we all get accepted and get to see each other at orientation!
