Hello! I am in the process of applying for the spring 2012 semester at the Baltimore campus!! I didn't see any threads out there yet for people who are applying so I figured I'd start one :) Feel free to share gpa, TEAS scores, etc and any updates on admission!! GOOD luck to everyone!
I have set up my UMaryland account and you have to fill out forms and submit them electronically and wait 48 hours before you can sign up for classes from what I see. Not positive though, but the forms they direct you to are for submission and do not automatically sign you up for classes. Different from what I am used to!

Yeh, you have to go on to the registration site and register for classes. Thanks for the heads up on the 48 hours thing, I'll be sure to get that done ASAP so I can register for classes Monday. I'm mailing my deposit and required forms tomorrow (minus CPR- that class is Wednesday night) so hopefully my deposit will post to my account by Friday so I can get the ball rolling.
So to add to the questions about scheduling. We need NURS, 304, 315, 320 and 333, correct? I saw NURS 330 floating around above and was a bit confused. Anyway, does anyone know how long it takes to get between classes? Are they all located in the same building? Because I could create a schedule where I only go three days but there are two instances where I have 10 minutes to get from one class to the next. Don't know how that will work. Also, the instruction sheet says something about NURS 333 having a lab as well but that is not detailed on the class list. Where do we get info about the schedule for the NURS 33 lab? NURS 304 has lab times listed on the class schdule, but 333 does not. Also sinc eit is our first semester we just fill out the add/drop form or do we need the Approval to Register form as well?
Ahh somewhat overwhelmed and confused! Thanks!
I'm assuming classes are all near each other so that we can move from one class to the next quickly. The locations of the classes are still listed as TBA on the registration site, so there's really no way to map out where the classes are. There are a few days that I have 10 minutes to get from one to the next, also.
My trepidations are now turning to excitement. Yay
I'm such a scaredy cat when it comes to big changes. My husband had to remind me that I was just as scared about going back to school when I decided to get this ball rolling. I kept coming up with excuses to just do the ADN program at AACC instead of doing the BSN program at UMSON. I'm starting to get excited now.
From what I have read so far, yes we need to do the Request to Register for classes. There are instructions about that on the Register for classes part of the info for Accepted students. I emailed one in today- I hate to wait on things- so hopefully I didn't jump the gun on that one.
The lab thing is a bit confusing. If you look at the lab sections, I think they say 304/333, like they are for both. On the request for registration, there are only 4 lines to fill in classes: 304, 315, 320, and 333. What about the lab? It's a separate class/section, so I don't really know about registering for that either. Another discrepancy that I found, is that one of the sections for lab (the one I have my eye on) is an hour shorter than all the others. It is listed as Group 2, and it has class/lab on Tuesday from 2-4:00, whereas all the other Groups have class from 2-5:00. I wonder if that's a type-o. Getting home an hour earlier sure would be nice for studying and spending time with my family!
Hargrove 86- have you gone to an orientation? It seemed like everything is in the one building- yet it's a pretty big building! The schedule I'm hoping for is the same- 10 minutes to get from class to class on some days. Classes on Mon, Tues, and Friday, and I suppose clinicals on Wed and Thurs.
GREY LADY--- Can you help with any of these questions we have!!????! :-)

I saw that discrepancy, too. But if you look at the lab times on the NURS 304 Lab Module schedule (located at the bottom of this page: http://nursing.umaryland.edu/admissions/accepted/registration ), they're all the same length, they all go until 5pm. But those are communication modules (any clue what that means?) and they're only for 4 weeks between March and April.
As for the registering for labs, I think the section you select indicates what lab you want---??? I know section 1 was the class, but section 2 was group 1, section 3 is group 2, etc. Who knows? And I just confused myself on that one. https://www.simsweb.umaryland.edu/pls/SIMS/bwckschd.p_get_crse_unsec
So from what I'm understanding, in order to register for classes we need to:
1. Pay the deposit (did you all pay electronically? I was going to mail a check, but I think I should pay electronically to get things going faster. How long did it take from the time you paid until you were able to register for myUM?)
2. Set up our myUM accounts.
3. Go on the site and figure out what classes/sections we want. (it says there are lab sections for 304 and 333 and that we need to be mindful to not schedule a class when we have labs and that lab schedules are posted on the UMSON website--- any idea where we can get info about when labs for 333 are?)
4. Fill out the registration form (signature not needed) and email it to registrations (the approval to register form found here, right? http://nursing.umaryland.edu/student-resources/student-services/student-forms).
---ooooh, perhaps there were only 4 lines because we're not actually registering for classes, only getting approval? Maybe when we register online, it'll give us the option of picking the appropriate lab section???---
5. Wait at least 48 hours for the hold to be lifted so that we can register online.
6. Register online on SURFS.
7. Have the best damn nursing school experience possible.
AprilAnney- I'm with you in that I don't really like big changes. I should be used to them by this point in my life. I'm certainly excited to start this program at UMD. I just hope I don't forget any critical paperwork or something before January 23rd! It seems like there is just sooooo much to do! You guys/gals on this thread are helping to keep me on task though. :-)
Ok so I have found where we can get all this info. On the accepted students page for registration where it gives you the steps for the 4 things you need to do to register, there is a section at the bottom IMPORTANT COURSE INFORMATION. There are 5 PDF files there and they explain everything in detail and who to contact with questions! Hope that helps!

@AprilAnney: I was able to setup the account once I paid the deposit. I didn't try to register yet since registration doesn't open til Nov 21.
