Hello! I am in the process of applying for the spring 2012 semester at the Baltimore campus!! I didn't see any threads out there yet for people who are applying so I figured I'd start one :) Feel free to share gpa, TEAS scores, etc and any updates on admission!! GOOD luck to everyone!
I don't think we have to do the background check independently....unless I read something incorrectly.
Each clinical site will most likely require a background check and it's up to us to supply that (along with any urinalysis they might require). There is a form we have to sign for UMSON that states that we are aware that clinical sites probably will require a background check, but UMSON can't guarantee what type of background check they will want (but heavily implies that PreCheck/Student Check is the company that most clinical sites accept).

The UMSON Background Check Notification is the form I'm referring to.
I know that . But we don't need to provide an independent background check to the school as hayyy was suggesting. We will be told when it is required for the clinical site and then we may have to pay for it. But the clinical site will handle the particulars regarding the company that does it, etc. And I would imagine if they drug test you, they would want to do that themselves also. So I wouldn't worry about trying to figure out which company you are going to use.
tippeny...that's what I thought about the e-mail address. I sent my deposit in right away, intent letter as well and created a SURFS account. I don't have the Gooogle Apps @UMaryland Account option in my SURFS account management site and no one at the University has been helpful answering this. I have just been providing my gmail address on forms for right now.
Also, here is something to think about for everyone. I had an MD who was also a microbiologist as a professor for some of my prereq's and he strongly urged those of us going into healthcare to have out Hepatitis B titers tested. I blew it off but finally decided to do it. i had the 3 shot protocol when I was younger and every doctor has always signed off that I am ok. But I just got my titer test back and damn if I don't have immunity. Just because you had the vaccines, does not mean you are safe and this is a really preventable disease. I just need a round of shots again and should be fine. I would encourage you to do the same.
Also, someone asked where to get cheap flu shots. I saw that Franklin Square has free flu shots sometime this week.
I had my first TB test today, and an update on my tetorifice. Going to start my Hep B later this week. Fun stuff.
Hargrove86- It took them a couple of days to email me the info about the UMD account. Just watch out for their email. Hopefully you'll get it soon. Thanks for the heads up about those PDFs on the courses. They were certainly helpful. Now, to get some text books and tackle the boatload of reading to do before the semester starts.
AprilAnney- Are you still at AACC? I'm finishing my prereqs there. Didn't know if we were in any of the same classes.
I just had my blood work done for titers yesterday and Hep B was included on it, so we'll see what comes back from the lab. I haven't had any shots in at least 8 years, though (probably 10) from my first go-around at college. I'm sure I've got a few booster shots with my name on them.
And yes, tippeny, I'm still at AACC. I've taken most of my courses online, though. Currently I'm taking Stat, Nutrition, Chem 111 (lecture online and lab on Thursdays in Arnold), and English 207. I've only gone to campus for my biology classes- intro, micro, and A&P. What classes are you currently taking?
Has anyone else registered for courses online? I faxed in my Approval for Registration form yesterday, got a call today saying it was received and my hold was lifted. I thought we couldn't sign up for classes until the 21st, but it let me web register for everything today. I don't have any fees listed yet, so maybe it's not official until the 21st? Any ideas? I figured they would want me to pay right when I sign up (which I was worried about but did want to get the schedule I hoped for).
Also does anyone know when we find out if we will be receiving any financial aide or merit scholarships? I would really love to know and the office hasn't gotten back to me yet with an answer.
