Just thought I would check to see who else might be applying for Spring '09?
Me either. I have a previous undergrad with a 2.6. I had a 3.47 or so in the 59 pre req's that UMB requires. I also had a 4.0 in all of the core sciences that they require. I know they look at those very closely, so focus on those if you can.
Otherwise, it isn't all about your gpa. Write a rocking essay. Get some great recomendations, not just the same old, same old. Do something to set yourself apart from the other 500 applicants-something distinct from a good gpa. Heck, lots of people have good gpa's.....
Finally, have a back up plan. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. It helps to keep your head level when making very emotional decisions and when waiting for very emotional decisions to be made!
Something else to add...
Along with recommendations they also look well on experience in the health care field. And it doesn't necessarily need to be just nursing, I've worked as a physical therapy tech for two years now and I think writing about that in my essay helped a lot.
Volunteering places and just getting your foot in the building, even if its a receptionist job (if that's your thing) is a good idea. I think they also look at overall improvement. I have a 3.1 cumulative GPA right now and I know my science GPA is higher (not exactly sure what though) but it wasn't always that way. As others have said you don't need to have a 3.7 or higher to get into nursing school but you might want to make sure you shine in other areas.
Good luck!
I GOT IN. OH MY GOD. I am still in shock. I have followed this forum before I even sent in my application. Last week when I saw that a few of you got in, I was a little disappointed. However, I kept my faith. I and those close to me -especially my sweet boyfriend- kept on praying. Finally, today I am officially in. Thank you all for your posts because its nice to know that others share the pain and anxiety that this experience brought. I got into Shady Grove Campus.Just a quick suggestion: I just want to get to know people a little better so we can introduce ourselves by first name. In this way, at least we will know each other on the first day of class. For a start, my name is Mia. I am currently a student at Howard University. I am leaving Howard because I feel like University of Maryland will offer me better opportunities. And I am so happy I got in because my plan B sucked.
Hey Mia,
I just got my acceptance letter into the Shady Grove campus as well. My name is Jasmine, please to meet you!
I was soooo relieved to see the "admit-institution" on the online admissions site too! Then I got my letter in yesterday via usps and was glad to see that I was not imagining things! (I STILL kept looking back to make ssure it still said admitted!) (crazy, I know!)
Still anxiously awaiting the official welcome packet to find out when the open house/orientation is for new incoming nursing students.
~Jasmine:yeah:
Does somebody know what this mean:Application Status: Complete ready for review
Decision: Committee Ready
I did not get in right???
I am so saddddddddddddddd:bluecry1:
WAIT A SEC!!!
Mine said the same thing for 2-3 weeks, but then a few days ago it changed to "Decision Made" "Admit-Institution" .... so do not worry, there is still a chance you will get in, because I sure did!
I just turned down my acceptance, so there is another main campus spot opening up :)
As cool as it would have been, I was not likely to get any FA help or scholarship money and in contrast, my local CC is not only 1/4 of the price but they offered me a scholarship that covers 100% of the tuition costs.
So, I'll take the long route and allow my hospital to pay for my RN to BSN in two years. It is the best for me, but still sad.
Good luck to all of you!

Well good luck SiennaGreen! On the contrary, I just went and signed a letter to decline the offer that was given to me by my community college earlier today in order to get the BSN done now through UMB! Either way, we both had our individual reasons as to why we did what we did. Best of luck to you, at least you will have less the worry of finances as oppose to me having to figure out how I am going to pay for it all!

Hi my name is JR and I got the decision-admit institute for Shady Grove for Spring 09 a few weeks back. I stumbled on it by accident and must have looked at it 100 times to make sure I wasn't imagining it!
Got a letter this past Friday saying I qualified for in-state tuition and an Student ID #. Anyone have an idea if/when I will get a real acceptance letter??
Looking forward to taking classes with you all. I took my prereqs at Montgomery College, Takoma Park. I also applied and believe I have been at accepted at Marymount U which I will decline.
When you get your packets can you post? I will do same.
