Hi!
I also intend to apply for fall '09 and I'm worried that I won't be able to submit everything by the September 1 deadline. Have you taken the NET exam yet?
Did you intend to say Fall '09? The Fall deadline is NOT Sept 1st-that is the Spring '09 deadline.
Yes, I have taken the NET, although who knows when the folks at what used to be ERI will feel like sending those test scores over to UMB. Grrrr....I just gave my DH an earful about that this morning.
You could make it happen, but you should call the number and schedule your NET test appt quickly. (If you haven't yet) They fill up slots and it would be really crummy if you had to wait because you didn't get the test taken in time.
Keep me posted!!
Sorry...I meant Spring '09. :chuckle Yes. I am scheduled to take the test this week. How do you find the exam? Was the math portion easy? Do I have to review any science subjects?
I felt that the Math portion was straight forward and nothing beyond very basic algebra. They had a very brief science section. Mine was basic cell biology/metabolism and a couple chem questions. It doesn't count in your composite though.
The reading comprehension was really the most challenging. If you haven't been practicing focused reading, try to tonight. Time yourself reading a detailed paragraph, and then ask yourself What was the main idea? What was the author's purpose?
If you haven't been to the NET thread in the pre nursing student section of this forum-go there now. You'll find it under the student tab at the top.
Finally, I thought the online practice test at the ERI web site was worth the $15. I know others disagree, but it really helped me be prepared for the style of questions and the timing.
Let me know how you do!
So, how did the NET go?
Did you take it at Pearson or at a group testing?
Hi there!
I took your advice on buying the online practice test. I was so dismayed that I can't achieve a good score in the reading portion. I never thought that I would have problems with reading comprehension. It is indeed very tricky! So I decided to reschedule my exam. I'll probably take it next week through Pearsonvue. Have you received your scores yet?
Good call. Seriously, go to the student forum in the pre nursing section. Find the All about the NET thread at the top of the page and read through. Then google search as many SAT and NET reading comprehension prep tests as you can. Practice, practice, practice. I made some entries shortly after Aug 1st re: my test that might be helpful to you.
I felt the same way. I was furiously studying math because it has always been my weakest subject. I am an excellent writer and read everything...I NEVER considered that the reading comp would be the most difficult portion until I started taking these practice tests. Some of them I was scoring 40% and 50% on. Not good!!
I did incredibly well on my test. I got a 100% on the Math portion. Shocker. I also earned an 85% on the reading comprehension. (By the grace of God) I did not do as well on the grammar section-74%-but was told that UMB only counts Math and reading comprehension into their composite.
Which Pearson will you go to? Prepare yourself for some crazy militant testing people. I was very unnerved at the testing center with their rules and their attitude. I have really irritating seasonal allergies and usually chew gum to keep my throat from scratching like crazy...they got very stern with me and told me under no circumstances could I take gum in the testing room. No water, candy, gum, any personal items. They even stopped one girl and ask her to remove her HEADBAND because it was a wide one and she might have notes written on the inside???? So, just be prepared for some attitude and don't let it to you. If you prepare, you will be ready.
Feel free to PM me with any questions!
Hi ClhRN2b2010!
Is the PM option in your account disabled? I wanted to PM you, but can't figure out how. Let me know. Thanks!
I sent you a PM, hoping that possible it would make it easier? Let me know if you don't get it! if you do, I think you can just reply to me.
I can't undertand for some reason when I highlight your user name there is no option of sending a PM. Anyhow, I just want to know how long you studied before taking the NET. I took the online practice again. I still have not managed to get a score in the reading comprehension higher than a 68%. I finally got a 100% in Math. Also, I think I might have to defer my application for Fall '09. I decided that I can't risk getting a low score in the NET, although I know that my GPA can make up for it in a way. I know how competetive it is so I don't want to submit anything that has been haphazardly done. Did you get your review materials mostly from the internet? Thank you so much for all the advice. I'm sure you'll make it!!!
And hopefully, I will be able to follow the succeeding semester.
Thanks for the encouragment! You need to make the best decision for you, but don't be to discouraged by the NET. It doesn't hurt you to take it twice (except in your wallet), but keep in mind that the last time I spoke with UMD-they said they didn't even have a minimum score. Your GPA and essay could totally weigh out a poor NET score. I had a substandard GPA and so I really needed to shine.
Best wishes and touch base if you decide to apply!!
