Just thought I would check to see who else might be applying for Spring '09?
Have you received your advisor's name yet? If so, call them and make an appt.
Do you have access to the registration system yet? Do you have student ID's or whatever you need to get on? If so, try it. What is the worst that can happen?
I think your advisor needs to sign off on any registration. (If I remember reading the online student handbook). My guess is because you don't have a lot of options this first semester, it won't be too big of a deal that things are delayed.
I know its frustrating but keep in mind that classes don't begin until Jan 19, 2009. I don't know if you have dug around the website - look at this link:
http://nursing.umaryland.edu/admissions/schedules.htm
According to the calendar, new student orientations will be the week before.
Also keep in mind that the nursing program is fairly regimented especially the first semester. Somewhere there is a recommended list of classes for first semester; they are all core classes for beginning students. Bottom line is you will get into the classes you need for the 1st semester unlike what we usually experience where if you don't sign up right away you won't get the class.
I am going out of the country for two weeks beginning the week of Thanksgiving so I have already resigned myself to the fact that the elusive package probably won't be here before then
Has everyone got their shots in order? Finished my 2nd round of Hep B and a TB test this week. Not sure what to do about the mump/measles/chickenpox records. I had them as a kid but being an older student and from a military family that moved a lot there are no medical records. Know I had them cause most of those diseases I passed on to my mother..lol.
And one more thing to share. A friend of mine started a nursing program at another local school this past fall. He advised me to brush up on medical terminology. He says he has spent a lot of extra time looking up words, in addition to more reading than he has ever done in his life. I bought Stedman's Medical Terminology Flash Cards and have been surprised at how much anatomy I am rusty on already . Anyway the cards have been more than enough to keep me busy while I wait.
Hang in there gang - this time is going to be a distant memory soon enough.

A heads up, if you don't have the record for the shots you will need to get titers done. I had the same problem myself. Tried to argue that I had to have had them to get through the school system, but to no avail. May as well get started on it now my friend...
They just draw a blood sample to see if you have any antibodies (which would indicate whether or not you have had any previous exposure/shots). They should be able to do all three tests from 1 blood draw and will give you a copy to submit once the results are back, usually within a couple of days of them drawing blood.
Ask your doc, but for me having the titers drawn was cheaper than actually getting the shots all over again to prove that I had them. Also check with the school and make sure they are still accepting titer results. I went through the process a couple of years ago now. I doubt is has changed, but you never know!
Just got my welcome package in today, woohoo!
As for titers, yes, they still accept titers, that was the only way I can prove any of my shot history that was undoubtedly lost when I got out of the military. As long as you have a print-out document to prove your titers and the doc signs off on it, then you are good to go.
Hope to see everyone in 2 months for orientation!

I was advised by some previous grads to stay on top of the administrative side of things at UMB. call, follow through personally on things, double check, get things in writing and save emails. I was told "the professors are wonderful. The admin, from admissions to records and registration is horrendous".
Obviously, this is good advice anywhere you go to to school or work. I got the impression it was critical in this situation.
All to say, I think you're on the right track by calling and following through.
