Hi my name is JR and I got the decision-admit institute for Shady Grove for Spring 09 a few weeks back. I stumbled on it by accident and must have looked at it 100 times to make sure I wasn't imagining it!

Got a letter this past Friday saying I qualified for in-state tuition and an Student ID #. Anyone have an idea if/when I will get a real acceptance letter??

Looking forward to taking classes with you all. I took my prereqs at Montgomery College, Takoma Park. I also applied and believe I have been at accepted at Marymount U which I will decline.

When you get your packets can you post? I will do same.

Hi JR,

I am currently going to MC TK-SS campus to finish up my chem and stat classes this semester. I got my actualy admission letter about a week after seeing it say "admit-institution" online, and received my in'state tuition letter a week after that. So looks likeour scenerio flip-flopped in this case.

I will def keep you updated if I receive the welcome packet. I will be attending Shady Grove as well, see you (and all others) there soon!

Hi JR,

Congrats! Like dorkalicious above, I received my official acceptance letter about a week or so after my acceptance was posted online. I just received my in-state letter with student ID about two weeks ago. I'd give them a call if you don't receive it by the end of the week.

BTW, I am finishing up my last prereq at MC-TP and I think I recognize your name from my online nutrition class last spring.

See you at SG!

Congrats to everyone!! I was just curious about your g.p.a's. I'm applying for Fall 2009 and i know that u have to have at least a 3.0 to apply. Did anybody get admitted with a g.p.a b/w 3.0 and 3.5?? Im at about 3.1 and dont want to apply if i dont have a chance b/c of my gpa. Thankss.

I wouldn't spend a lot of time and energy worrying about overall GPA. I am 47 and had no idea what my GPA was but I know overall it was less than 3.0 What matters most is your core classes Anatomy Micro Chem etc. Those you need to do your best in and ensure 2 professors from there know you well enough to write killer recommendation letters.

The other thing is the essay/resume. You should state what your objectives are (besides being a nurse of course.) You should invest some time looking around and having a good idea of what specialty you would be interested in and write to that.

And if you aren't doing so already get involved in volunteer activities!

I think my goals and my volunteer record is what got me in not my GPA.

Thanks again Shannon & Dork for the letter input. I contacted them and they said they are behind mailing letters due to the extension date for admission. And Shannon I was in that nutrition class :-)

Thanks JR..I'm a CNA already and i hope that will help in my admission process. I'm confused the website says u have to have at least a 3.0 and u say u had below that and still admitted. So do they really accept applicants with a gpa lower than a 3.0?

I went to the orientation over the summer and the assistant admissions director did answer someone's question regarding GPA. One girl asked how important GPA was, because she had a bad start years ago in college, but has since improved it. The assist director told her that they take EVERYTHING into consideration. She said that they also READ EVERYTHING as well. She also mentioned an example of one applicant that had a below 3.0 gpa but had a SUPERB essay, so she was admitted due to the essay. Break yourself from the group... she said if she had a dime for everytime someone started their essay with "ever since i was little I knew I wanted to be a nurse..." cliche she would be a millionaire by now, so be unique and give it a more personal effect.

Also I think your CNA status is a great leg up on it too. I was a prior Army Medic and I think that helped play a major role in acceptance as well.

Also, make sure you do good on your NET exam. They don't really judge high or low scores (as long as you meet the minimum, I thnk its 80). But I am sure if you did extraordinarily well they would take that into consideration too. Basically if your GPA is not as great, make sur eyou have other aspects that allows you to break away form the pack of applicants

Good luck!

Thank you guys!! I feel better now. I pray that they have favor on me, in spite of my academic shortcomings.

Admitted with a 3.1 cumulative this spring. It can be done- don't lose hope :nuke:

Any new updates anyone?

I emailed the Assistant Director last week inquiring about advisors and registration. She said hopefully by Friday (the 7th) they would have sent out all packets containing the information. So start checking your mailboxes everyday!!:yeah:

Thanks for the info!

I also emailed the Admissions Office a couple of weeks ago. They told me that they will be sending out the information packet once the class list is finalized. Good to hear that information packet is forthcoming.

:yeah:

Yeah she told me the same thing too, however a while back, she told me an estimated date and that has long past. Then I asked again for an update and she said at the latest last Friday....

So we'll see.
