I will be applying for the Fall 2011 program at UMB really really soon. I was wondering if anyone else was doing the same...? I'm really nervous about applying because Anatomy really kicked my butt last semester and I ended up getting a C (even though I ended up doing really well on my other science courses). Now, I'm losing hope. Anyone feeling the same?
Yeah, and this snow doesnt help any. I just spent the last hour standardizing the data I got from the spring 2011 accepted students, even made an excel sheet (which forced me to learn excel) and calculated where my stats put me if I had applied in the spring (because the competition changes every cohort it doesnt really apply to fall).
The data is really just for entertainment value. I collected it before I realized what I was doing, hoping that it would give me insight of what to shoot for. But the issue is that every cohort group is different and UMB takes a lot more into consideration then GPA and TEAS.
Some other issues with my data:
1) Its from spring, which trends differently then Fall
2) It is from a very small population (about 6%)
3) I have no way of verifying the data, its all from students on here and at my school
4) I don't know how UMB calculates GPA: how many credits they go back, if science is included in the overall.
5) I only have data for TEAS 4, this cycle allows 4&5
6) I don't know how UMB weighs each category
7) UMB only looks at Math and Reading portions of the TEAS, I only took into account overall % and percentile
8) It only includes students that got in
My best advice is what I learned from going to open houses at UMB. TEAS above 80 to be competitive, In GPA get a high one, and for GPA Science matters the most, and in science A&P matters the most. And in truth I have seen UMB applicants in other threads that get in with little more than a 3.0, so when they say that the requirement is 3.0 (and I seem to rember hearing 70 was the min on the TEAS at an info session, but I am not 100% on that) they mean it, and as long as the rest of your package is awesome I think you have just as much of a chance as the next person (gosh I hate using gender neutral words, as the next person just doesnt have the same ring as the next guy).
Despite all that if anyone wants me to crunch your numbers I will, just email me your overall GPA including sciences, your science grades, your TEAS % and Percentile, but I won't post the data on here as its too flawed and even if it were perfect it is very hard to interpret. I have my email address in my profile if you cant PM (or don't want to in order to maintain privacy), and check it often.
i am speaking from someone that has been in your shoes and is now at UMB-
1. there is no formal wait-list that you all will have access to
2. as student_4_life stated the cohort changes ever round so while the basics requirements still apply (min GPA, TEAS score, etc) the actual avgs of the incoming class changes - trying to figure out where you fit in will not help (IMHO/E) if you applied with the mins there is nothing else to do at this point
3. breathe deeply! Fretting now is not going to get you all anywhere and clicking "refresh" on SIMS is just going to wear out your mouse and your index finger -both of which you'll need once in school!

Looks like hitting refresh on SIMS can also take down the system...

Anyone else struggling with the last few classes, not because they are hard, or because you are burned out, but because you dont really care about them. I know we have to get B's, and since they are fluff I am gettings A's, but i just don't have that desire to do well like I did with the sciences.
I know how you feel; it's kind of like you're just ready to get in the program and get started already on classes that will directly impact your career. (at least that's kind of how I feel.)
This is the week that the first round of accepted students might hear back... I am so nervous about it all.
4 weeks and 49 posts later... I really dont think we will hear anything back this week, but starting next Monday its on (which is the same week as my midterms, but then its spring break!!!).
No new data from MHEC (on that today is the last day to apply for most of the state scholarships).

I'm sure I'm just repeating what everyone else has been saying and thinking, but this wait is killing me! We aren't even a month in yet, and I'm already checking the surfs site several times a day and checking allnurses to see if anyone had any status changes yet. I'm at committee ready and I hope we all start hearing soon; I'm so nervous about everything, and every time I check I swear my heart stops for a second.
