UMB FALL 2011

Published

I will be applying for the Fall 2011 program at UMB really really soon. I was wondering if anyone else was doing the same...? I'm really nervous about applying because Anatomy really kicked my butt last semester and I ended up getting a C (even though I ended up doing really well on my other science courses). Now, I'm losing hope. Anyone feeling the same?

"good luck getting in with that c"

Really maryland88? Why would you even go there? You got into UMB in Spring on a 2+2 contract, you really have no right to be snarky about grades. People get C's, it happens, and for others to lie, even if they are just ill informed, and tell them they are less because of that C is just little. I am sure plenty of students have got into UMB with a C, sure it's not something to count on, but it's also not something to be so condescending about.

???????????

I did not go to maryland college park. i served enlisted time in the Army & did my pre-reqs elsewhere.

and if you found that offensive... by all means enjoy Conrad Gordon for adult health and your floor managers who will laugh at you, if you get overworked over a small comment; it was not condescending, it was a fact. There is a reason UMB is ranked nationally for nursing.

I do not know of anyone who is at UMB who got a C in a pre-req... besides that one towson girl, she has since failed out... several students fail out or fall back a semester; you will see it.

Getting a C is not the end of the world for a pre-req, just retake the class if it was one of the core science courses, was my point.

A C in the foundation science classes is not the same as a C in an arts or humanities course. Grades in the four required sciences are predictive of success in our nursing program. You come into our school as a junior and your courses assume you are well grounded in the sciences. There is no review - you are expected to hit the ground running on day one. The admissions committee will likely ignore a C in Pottery but will be more than a little alarmed at a C in Microbiology. Rightly so. If you don't have proficiency in the sciences we are not doing you a favor by admitting you.

Ouch, things got a little heated.

To change gears a bit, we have made it two weeks!

:heartbeatHappy Valentines Day!!!:redbeathe

Hope you all have a good one

Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum; although I've been reading it for the past few months, I have actually now joined! Wanted to know if anyone has heard anything about Fall 2011 decisions yet? My "Decision" on my Application Summary says "Committee Ready" but I have no idea what that means. I keep checking my e-mail and regular mailbox but...nothing. I'm not so sure about my chances. I began postsecondary education at UMBC in 2002 right after high school. I started as a Psych major, I really did not do well at all my first few years, then I got pregnant and took some time off school. Being a mom has completely changed my idea of school and has motivated me to a level I never thought I'd get to. I went back to school at Montgomery College a year and a half ago to do my pre-reqs for Nursing and got on the Dean's List a few times. I got an 87% on my TEAS and had 3 out of 4 of my science professors write me recommendation letters (I know we only needed 2 but I figured I needed as much praise as I could get!). My grades for the sciences are: A&P I-C, A&P II-A, Micro-A, Chem (I'm not so sure about Chem...I got a D the first time I took it, then took it again and got a B so is it a B or is it averaged out to a C?). Anyway, I'm REALLLLY nervous because I only applied to UMB-Shady Grove and MC but I'd rather to to UMB and get my BSN right away instead of having to get my ASN first and then go back for my BSN. I'm hoping they will consider the fact that I really turned my life around after having my son and see that I'm really serious about school now. I wrote, what I thought, was a damn good essay so I'm hoping that helps...keeping my fingers crossed!

Committee Ready means that all your application materials have been received and your application is ready for the admissions committee to review and begin the decision making process. Count on 6 to 8 weeks before you will hear - it just takes that long. Good for you for putting your effort into your essay - that will really help your chances. I would advise you to take a break from checking your status for at least three weeks - no sense in driving yourself crazy! Best of luck and don't forget to keep us all updated here.

From what I learned at the information session retakes are averaged, so it would be a C. And your status is better than mine, I am still at complete ready for review.

Hi @ MomBak2Skool, I am taking my pre-reqs at Montgomery College too. Hope we continue shady grove campus

what is the difference?

Not sure of the difference, I just know complete ready for review is step one, and comittee ready is step 2.
