UMass Worcester GEP Fall 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone! I didn't see a UMass Worcester GEP Fall 2019 thread so I thought I would start one. I submitted my application in September. The last I heard was they were going to start to review the applications they have in hand at the end of September and would at some point start extending interviews. In a past info session, they said they have a rolling admissions process. I haven't heard anything more since then, so I'm just sitting tight.

Hello,

Cuurent umass med np student in the midst of second semester, wanted to say congrats to those who got in! umass med is actually a fun school, with lots of learning opportunities. You'll love it!

Thanks for sharing! That's great to hear. I plan on attending in the fall! I got into four other programs in thr Boston area and am waiting to hear back from the last one, but my mind is pretty set on UMass. What do you feel like is the best aspect about the UMass program/curriculum that sets it apart from the other DE programs?

I just had an interview with them a few days ago, I think it went well.

If I get in, what do you guys think Boston College or UMASS Worcester for direct entry DNP? (I got into BC and Simmons already)

Hi Daisychains11,

Good luck, I hope you get in! I was also accepted to all of those schools as well and am choosing UMASS for multiple reasons. First, they offer the DNP degree (BC will too, but it's three years, Simmon's does not). Secondly, they require you to work as an RN after the first year which is great for having an income during the program and gaining experience. I have actually read many forums where current nurses don't respect direct entry NPs because of their lack of nursing experience, and many think that the clinical hours required are far too low compared to PA programs. Working while attending UMASS will give you more hours to be better prepared. I think both are good schools though!

Hi Alexandria2,

Thanks so much for posting! Can you elaborate on your favorite and least favorite parts of the program? What is your weekly schedule? And have you found it necessary to purchase all books?

Thanks! :)

Congrats @gwinshipnp! Just wondering, when did you interview and how long did it take for them to contact you about your acceptance after your interview? Thanks so much!

Did anyone hear back today? The email sent last week said they would call with decision Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.

I have not. I was also expecting a call with a decision over the last 24 hours, but haven't gotten anything yet... Probably Monday or sometime next week is my best guess!

I did not hear anything either and I had my interview on Feb. 6th. I am also assuming we won't hear anything today since it's a holiday. Hopefully starting tomorrow, we will hear something. For the FNP specialty, does anyone know if all the spots for FNP have been filled?

I interviewed 2/5 and I still have not heard anything. I was hoping yesterday, but hopefully at least sometime this week.

I was under the impression that we were going to hear last Friday at the latest
