I have been checking back all day, waiting to see!!! Did y'all get in that were trying for Spring?? I am so anxious for you! I thought they were placing you today! Do tell!

I am waiting to  :w00t:

Thanks Mary, I'm trying to remain hopeful, but it's going to be really hard waiting every Tues until the middle of January, hoping I'll get in. My friend got in at MCC too, so maybe you can be study buddies with her? She's great to study with, she's a really good student and will do great in NS. I was hoping to at least take 104 with you, but it looks like I won't even be able to do that, I think you have to take it while in NS, :crying2:

Who knows...maybe we'll get a really nice Christmas gift. We both could get notification around late December :biggringi

I agree on the shortage issue. I spoke with my advisor yesterday and she said that it all boils down to money. The CC's don't have enough $$ to pay the instructors well enough to lure them away from their good-paying jobs and in turn it creates a shortage of instructors. Until we get more money flowing into the Community College System, we'll be in this predicament.

Actually it would be a really nice 40th birthday present for me, my birthday is Dec 22nd. But I'd love to know something sooner, YKWIM? By the end of Dec. I'll just be REALLY disappointed and bummed out being one of the few who has to sit out two semesters instead of the usual one semester wait.

About the shortage issue, didn't they just get a $20million bond last year to increase NS's? I know they've used part of that money for CGCC, but come on, they really need to increase the other schools as well, this is just insane that there's so many people who want to be nurses, but have to wait sooooo long to do it. I could easily see someone just giving up b/c life gets in the way of 4.5 years of school.

I got into the Scottsdale/Paradise valley partnership accelarated program. I can't believe it! So sorry to hear that some of you guys didn't get in this time. I've had my application in since March so I guess thats why I got it.

Congratulations! You'll have to keep us updated on how you like the program!

So sorry to hear about those of you who didn't get in. That has got to be *so* frustrating. :scrying:

Have any of you thought about signing up at one of the skill ctrs? That is where I am right now, almost done with block one. the reason I chose it was because they do a waiting list, not a lottery. My wait was a year (I worked on prereqs while I waited) but at least I knew what my entrance date would be, it wasn't a toss up.

So how does this work for those of you who didn't make it in on the lottery? Do you get bumped up to first priority on the next draw? Or do you have to go through this process again?!

[quote=CalzonanIt's just not fair that people who are barely making it through the pre-req's and who probably won't make it through NS, are getting in and taking slots and then dropping/flunking out during block one, all because of this lottery system. I've also finished all my co-req's and wasn't planning on sitting out another semester, otherwise I would've taken patho next semester and FON now instead of both together.

I keep hearing on the news etc. about the nursing shortage, but if it takes so long to get in to NS what do they expect?? I figured it out, if they have 500 applicants one semester and only 300 get in, then there's 200 sitting out. next semester another 500 applicants, 300 slots, that's another 200 sitting out, or 400, etc. etc. etc. They can't possibly add enough programs to catch up with this.

I am so sorry to hear you guys have to wait longer :scrying:

It really isn't fair how they admit students that don't have a good chance of making it through school.

I am not sure how many block 1 students they admit at Glendale, but I can tell you that block 4 has a grand total of 29 students - and some of them are transfers from PC and probably 4 of them flunked last semester and are back. After our most recent test today we will probably lose at least 5 of the 29 that have no hope of passing the semester. So, out of however many they admit to block 1 - only about 25 max will graduate. Depressing, heh?

Anyway, hang in there! Hopefully you will still get in!

Good point, that's how I did it too. I signed up at Maricopa Skill Center, waited my year while doing prereqs. I will still doing BIO201 and BIO205 during nurse assisting at MSC. Then I was doing BIO202 during block 1, not easy but doable.

When I was done at MSC I had NO PROBLEM getting in block 3 at Glendale. I applied in November and I was the only new student. My class only had 12 people in it! The skill centers are more expensive, but you will definitely get a start date.

Some of you that are still doing prereqs might want to check into this.

Cheers,

Good point about the skills centers. I really wish I had known about them when I started all this. Unfortunately, at the Maricopa colleges you can't even apply until you're in your last semester of pre-req's. Once you've applied and completed all your pre-req's you're still looking at at least a one semester wait, but a lot of us on here are now waiting two semesters because we've already sat out fall semester. It would actually be faster just waiting another semester than trying to apply to a skills center at this point which is really depressing 'cause I'm sort of stuck now. I do have one option open that I'm looking into, hopefully it will work out for me. I've done the math though, and I was told today that 163 people didn't get placed. There were 168 summer applicants and I'm #141. That means there's still a huge line ahead of me before I ever get placed. What really irks me is that the person who got #1 slot didn't do anything better, quicker or anything more than me, they're just luckier, and now they've got a spot in spring. It's all luck of the draw, which is so exasperating because there's nothing we can do about that.

If I missed out on this next semester I'd consider other options. Could try giving Grand Canyon a call. They might have slots available. The high tuition can be paid off by signing an multi-year contract with a local hospital. I think there's at least one other high tuition nursing school option in the valley (Apollo?).

The two big drawbacks about Apollo is the high cost and the classes don't transfer to ASU (or other universities) for BSN credit.

Grand Canyon is a good suggestion. I'll check it out. I'm sure that it's a similar program to ASU but if there's a partnership program (which I think they have with Phoenix Baptist) it may be a possibility. Heck, it beats waiting with nothin' to do! :yeahthat:

Hey so you guys already found out for this Spring? I thought application week wasn't until Oct 24 - 28th. Wow, I am really out of the loop! Guess its because I'm in Tucson :(. I was hoping to try for Rio @ tucson, but I guess I might be out of luck now!
