UK old nurses question

What was the name of that foul (but addicting) smelly browny black paste we used to put on old infected IV sites??? My friend and I were talking about it last night and I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of it.

I loved it because it seem to solve all sore IV sites, but it was trashed when we had to use research based practice and we had no rationale for using it.:clown:

Oh I remember the burned fingers from making Kaolin poultices! First you have several squares of gauze then you had to aim the boiling kaolin into the middle ,away from the edges then you had to put several more squares on top of that without letting the kaolin come out the sides. It was great practice for pastry making in years to come!

Now they come ready packaged but you can still burn your fingers getting it out of the boiling water!!

dont think its glicanic we still use that on ENT we insert glicanic wicks into infected ears itchthamol sounds right really racking my brains its been driving me nuts since madwife mentioned it while out on friday,:lol_hitti

so blaming madwife for the sleepless nights :trout:

It kept me up wondering as well, I really am sure it was glicanic, it was like a paste.

I remember it as a brown liquid in a bottle and soaking gauze swabs

AHh thanks honey but every time I look at the years experience and see 20 years I remember being a student and thinking that the nurses who had been qualified 20 years were old
