I've read tons and tons of posts on here and looked everywhere online but I'm at a loss on what to do!
I'm a second year Adult nursing student (3 year BSC) and when I graduate I want to be able to move over to the US as soon as possible! (I'd rather keep my motivations private, and not let that side track the conversation)
The only issue is - hours.
Since I'm doing only adult nursing, none of my lectures or placements have anything to do with maternity, pediatrics or mental health. So I'm wondering what to do!
(If you're wondering why I'm asking so early because I haven't even finished my degree - I want to know all my options and to see if I can do anything)
What routes can I take? Would I be able to take classes in the US when I'm finished to make up the hours? Can I just - never go to the USA to work as a nurse? (It seems very hopeless at the moment)
Any advice is much needed, thank you!

Following this as I am in a similar position. Also a 2nd year student, we don't want to move over until 2027 ish but want to see if there's anything I can be doing to help while I'm still at uni!

If you know where you may relocate to in the US, you might want to check with that states Board of Nursing. They may be able to give you some insight.

This is a good idea. The reality about the US is that we have 50 states that are largely self-governing in matters like this. If you search for “[state] board of nursing,” you'll find their website. Some probably have more comprehensive info online than others. But at the very least, you can find a phone number to call! I'm sure it won't be the first time the BON has fielded these questions.

Hi,
I'm also at university hoping to move to the US in the future. Did you manage to acquire any new information in regards to this topic?
Thank you

I emailed the board of nursing with the placement hours requirements and my board is surprisingly low hours. I will try and get spokes in those areas and get those hours done!

I have so many questions regarding this! Is there any way for me to PM you? If not, insta?
Hey,
what areas are you planning on getting spokes in? My uni doesn't allow us to work in paeds. What is the hour requirement? And which states BON did you contact?

I emailed the board of Virginia! A little update, I have emailed my university and I'm having a little roadblock on getting spokes - not that it's not allowed, but the spaces! I'm looking into alternatives

In all of these threads people always end up going to DMs and I find it's not helpful to people reading the post! If you have any questions, submit them here so other people can read and maybe answer if I can't! :D

Thank you! What areas are you planning on getting spokes in to reach the hour requirement for the areas you might be deficient in? Also what was the hour requirement for the BON you emailed?

I'm having issues because my particular area is very full of students so I'm going to try my hardest to get spokes in the Summer but I don't know how successful I will be. I think the areas would be mental health maternity and children's. The board I emailed said 24 or more hours in those areas (I'm emailing for more clarity)

Does your university allow you to do spokes in other areas of nursing like childrens? I'm doing adult nursing so we're told we can only go onto wards related to adult nursing. I'm trying to figure out where I can do spokes to try and fill that gap. Do you have any idea what I can do?
