Hi! I’m super excited to be sharing this with everyone! For those educated in Australia/New Zealand, I know it’s a freaking nightmare to get our education recognised as comparable due to our lack on peds + obs hours but I’m here to happily tell you all that I just received my NYS NCLEX eligibility! Here’s how I did it:

- February 2022: created CGFNS account and originally applied for CES with Texas

- April 2022: Switched CES to CVS to apply for NYS. I was researching on and off between Feb to April regarding the NCLEX exam and came across a post (by David Timmons, I believe?) where he mentioned his ED was denied by Texas. Read about him successfully obtain eligibility from NYS so I decided to switch to CVS.

- July 13th 2022: all documents were sent to NYSED by CGFNS. I made sure I had all my documents promptly in order and paid through the nose for expedited shipping to ensure they got to CGFNS ASAP!

- September 18th 2022: emailed NYSED for an update since my document processing date had already gone through on the NYSED website.

- October 15th 2022: clearly got ghosted by NYSED so I sent another follow up email, this time to CompEd and Unit 4! ([email protected] and [email protected])

I had also phoned during this time but got left on hold for 2 hours and then hung up on because they closed for the day. Most expensive phone call of my life.

- October 25th 2022: received my eligibility today!!! Over the freaking moon and feel as though a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders!

I’ve read countless threads on people trying to obtain eligibility - there were people saying it took them 8-12 months to obtain and I really stressed myself out thinking I would never obtain eligibility! To be honest, I really wasn’t expecting to get it until early next year after reading everyone’s anecdotes. What I can say is whatever you do, PRESS NYSED for your application. Out of everything I’ve read, I’ve noticed the ones that are proactive and reach out to NYSED are the ones that get their eligibility faster. Wishing you all the best and happy to offer any help!

PS: MAJOR thanks to David timmons (I think?) who made the super helpful post about obtaining his eligibility! You are a lifesaver!

Thanks for outlining your process and good luck with the NCLEX!

The more information that's out there the better because I had SUCH a hard time finding how to do it all and I'm glad my comments helped other people! ?

For sure! I'd probably still be stuck on my Texas CES if it weren't for your post so I'm incredibly grateful - hope nursing in the US is treating you well!

Congratulations and welcome ?

Hi @A B,

Thank you to you and Daniel Timmons from all Australian nurses who are in dilemma with NYSED and other states. Your both advice hasn't got unnoticed!  May I ask when the eligibility is granted, then when should NCLEX be given? In my CGFNS website, it's been a 1.5 months that all docs are shown as "Received". Should I wait till I hear something from them or apply for CVS now ? I am worried that if my college has sent correct document or not to CGFNS.

Regards,

Sam

Hey Sam,

I’m confused - have you completed CVS with CGFNS? If so, send all your docs in and give them 3-4 months to process everything. At the same time, apply for your license on NYSED website so that when CGFNS sends your CVS report, everything is ready to go. I’ll attach a link to a blog that I followed which outlines each individual step.

Thank you for your reply @A B

I have applied CES w/ CGFNS but haven't heard anything back from them. Should I also get CVS service from CGFNS now or wait till I get CES report? I am just worried than deficiency will show up at CES report.

As I have submitted all docs for CES, do I need to again ask my university to send them for CVS? They are kind of annoyed LOL

Sam

hey Sam!

No worries - call CGFNS and they'll convert your application to CVS. You don't need your school to resend the docs, I had all my docs sent in for CES as well but CGFNS managed to convert my application from CES to CVS before it was sent to Texas BON.

There are no additional fees, the only extra thing you need to arrange for CVS is a notarised document which outlines all the details you entered on your CGFNS application. I had to print the document and get it stamped and signed by an authorised notary, then I expedited shipping to have it sent to CGFNS in PA. I believe CGFNS does have their own online notary service (think it was backed up when I tried scheduling hence went the snail mail route) but have a look online once they change your application to CVS to see if you can get it done quicker that way. Hope this helps!

Thanks this is so helpful. How did you manage to get through the CGFNS? Every time I phone it just cuts me off. Im a UK trained nurse and we have the same issues as yourselves in Oz/NZ. I’ve applied for CES for Pennsylvania - I thought about applying to NY for CVS as better chance being recognised and being eligible to sit the NCLEX - the only issue is Pennsylvania isn’t a compact state - I know they will be soon but just don’t know how soon. My location isn’t negotiable either due to my partners job being in Pen state. I’m honestly scunnered I’ve had issue after issue - don’t even know if CGFNS have my transcripts after being sent out twice.

How long did it take for CGFNS to acknowledge they had your documents?

Timeline as follows:

Nursing license verification sent: 10 March / Received: 1 April 2022

Transcript sent by school: 27 March / Received: 7 June 2022

Notarised document sent by me: 15 April / Received: 6 July 2022

So about four months in total. Everything was sent with expedited shipping so took 2-3 weeks to get there.

Re licensure - I would go for NYBON - I’m 99.9% sure you can transfer your license to most states excluding California and Hawaii. I was actually supposed to have an interview with an employer in PA the other day, but they wanted me to pass the NCLEX first - the agency who organised it knew I would be licensed in NY so I really don’t think it matters.

Also yea, the phone lines suck, I just tried calling as early as possible. Good thing I work night shifts - accommodates for the time difference ?
