UH Sugarland 2nd Degree BSN Spring 2021

Published

Hi everyone! I'll be applying to UH Sugarland's second degree bsn program this upcoming spring. I have a bachelors in Biology. I would love to hear from others who are applying as well. Best of luck!

Congratulations everyone!! I received an invitation as well! Does anyone have an tips or insights on how the interview process will go or the types of questions they might ask?

Did anyone else get a drug test notice just now?! Mine states is it is Friday by 4 and I’m traveling out of state right now! Called the number, but they are already closed for the day... Does anyone have any advice on how to change the location?

@HannahRM I would also try contacting someone from the UH program tomorrow just in case. I also received my drug screen, so I'm going to get it done tomorrow during my lunch break.

It is still an all-day event (8AM to 4PM) and you have to do the drug screen before the interview still - I think somebody asked that earlier.

I did take some notes from the open house, and I'm sorry I didn't post them sooner. They mentioned the following:

  • 250 candidates were interviewed and ultimately 120 were accepted (could have been 120 enrolled, I didn't write down the specifics and I'm sure many of the candidates applied to multiple schools where UH isn't their first choice and decline their seat)
  • The number of people they admit can go over 100 for special cases (outstanding candidates)
  • We will find out sometime in October after the interview in September
  • Current student present for the open house: clinicals have been in Sugar Land, Katy, and HCPC for Psych (she is in her second semester). One of my friends who is an alumni mentioned to me that she had some clinicals at TMC (specifically Texas Children's) and some students did their externship/capstone in the TMC.
  • Some (most?) clinicals will be full 12-hour shifts in order to account for the condensed timeline.
  • They take into account your cumulative GPA and your science GPA, your TEAS (with a focus on Reading and Science), and your interview to make an admissions decision.

Little Warrior, thank you for providing notes from the Open House.  Did they mention how COVID has affected their classes?  Is everything still in-person?  How about clinicals?

Hi, @Tam Vo We started our Spring semester with clinicals and transitioned to simulated clinical experiences after Spring break. Summer was all didactic and all clincal were moved to this fall semester. We just started up on clinicals last week. We are currently doing OB, Pedi, and Med-Surg as well as applying and interviewing for Nurse Residency Programs in Texas.

Not sure if anyone really knows the answer to this question due to covid BUT do you think they'll send out batches of emails like they have for previous years?

@tmpham I’m not sure, but the email invitation does state that “This is the only opportunity for Interview Day.  There are no alternative days.” And we have to RSVP by the 14th of Sept, so maybe they’ll keep sending emails out all of this week?

@ic4647 I called the Surscan this morning and they gave me an option in the state I'm traveling through! Whew...... relief! ?

Those who got an interview invite already what are your stats?? Thanks in advance!

Did anyone get a rejection email? This being stuck in limbo of not knowing is taxing. Accepted or not I just what to know already!?

Glad it worked out for you!  I called them to get a new location too, and they told me to reply to their email with my zip code.  I did it as soon as they opened this morning, and I never heard back from them.

@Tam Vo That’s what they had me do too! I emailed my current zip code and they sent an updated one (via email) within about 10 mins. I would email or/and call again first thing in the morning. They answered the phone at 8:15.
