UH Sugarland 2nd Degree BSN Spring 2021

Published

Hi everyone! I'll be applying to UH Sugarland's second degree bsn program this upcoming spring. I have a bachelors in Biology. I would love to hear from others who are applying as well. Best of luck!

Just got my interview invite too!

Specializes in BSN Student.

It is still an all-day event (8AM to 4PM) and you have to do the drug screen before the interview still - I think somebody asked that earlier.

I did take some notes from the open house, and I'm sorry I didn't post them sooner. They mentioned the following:

  • 250 candidates were interviewed and ultimately 120 were accepted (could have been 120 enrolled, I didn't write down the specifics and I'm sure many of the candidates applied to multiple schools where UH isn't their first choice and decline their seat)
  • The number of people they admit can go over 100 for special cases (outstanding candidates)
  • We will find out sometime in October after the interview in September
  • Current student present for the open house: clinicals have been in Sugar Land, Katy, and HCPC for Psych (she is in her second semester). One of my friends who is an alumni mentioned to me that she had some clinicals at TMC (specifically Texas Children's) and some students did their externship/capstone in the TMC.
  • Some (most?) clinicals will be full 12-hour shifts in order to account for the condensed timeline.
  • They take into account your cumulative GPA and your science GPA, your TEAS (with a focus on Reading and Science), and your interview to make an admissions decision.

My stats, for reference:

  • Science GPA: 3.52
  • Cumulative GPA (according to NursingCAS): 3.04
  • Cumulative GPA (the prereqs UH asked for in NursingCAS additional information section) :3.494
  • TEAS Cumulative: 92% (Exemplary)
  • TEAS Reading: 89.4%
  • TEAS Math: 93.8%
  • TEAS Science: 91.5%
  • TEAS Writing: 91.7%
  • Previous UH graduate

Just got my interview email a couple hours ago! Anyone know what the third bulletin means under interview preparation?

I got my interview invite around 5:30pm!! @Zoya K that’s referring to any criminal record you may have that would prevent you from getting your nursing license. It has to be cleared before acceptance to the program. Congratulations btw ?

Hi! In my e-mail invite I only see Drug Screen Registration is required, not the actual screening.  Does your e-mail state something else?

I just received my interview invite! Very excited. It went into my spam folder, so I'm really glad I checked there. ?

@HannahRM my invite stated the same thing. It looks like we're required to pay for the screening by Sept. 14, but not necessarily need to complete the screening by then.

@ic4647 Yay! CONGRATS! ? This will be so fun and also very nerve-racking! Okay, that's how I read it too.  We have to register and pay for the drug screening, but I imagine they will provide us with further instructions on scheduling.  See you next Friday!

I got an interview invite as well around 5pm! I hadn’t thought to check my spam folder but sure enough, it was there! ?

for everyone that got an interview invite already, was there a date that you need to let them know by if you will be attending or not? Thanks!

@mollymalota Yes, by Monday, Sept. 14th.

Got my invite too. Received it yesterday at 5:12pm, I just now saw it cause it was in my junk folder. For those that are still waiting check your junk mail!
