Hi everyone! I'll be applying to UH Sugarland's second degree bsn program this upcoming spring. I have a bachelors in Biology. I would love to hear from others who are applying as well. Best of luck!
My stats can be found earlier in the thread, but I wanted to drop some insights about the interview here! Keep in mind that we had a virtual interview because of COVID-19.
Interview: We all took turns answering questions in a small group hosted by two faculty members. Some questions were broad, some were generic (I.e. why nursing?), and some were about COVID-19. Each person had a different question to answer.
Short Answer: Typed out responses to short answer questions and emailed them in.
Group Project: Teamwork skills evaluated - we used a PowerPoint slide and put Clip Art onto it like a virtual poster board.
Clinical Presentation: Presentation by clinical coordinator about clinical standards.
From what I see in our GM, everyone who interviewed got accepted. Some have declined to attend other schools, so the class will dwindle down. I want to say 134 of us attended the interview per someone else's count.
I also want to add that I graduated with a 2.9 from UH with a degree in Biology. I earned an MBA (GPA: 3.42) after college when pursuing other options and took classes at LoneStar (GPA: 4.0) to take care of some missing prereqs and I still received an interview - don't let poor undergrad performance hinder you from applying here!
Hi, everyone! I am looking for a female roommate to share an apartment with for the year. I am very laid back and easy going. Please email me [email protected] if you would be interested! Thank you! ?

I've seen a couple of GroupMe announcements, the latest one for finding roommates. I had asked about a facebook page, but I didn't see any responses. I've looked for facebook pages for past classes but strangely haven't found anything. I thought it would be helpful to have a page in case we have questions while getting all our titers, uniforms, etc.
I messaged you on your inbox here on allnurses ?
I wanted to update this thread for future applicants because this information would have been valuable to me looking back on the process.
I withdrew my acceptance to the UH Second Degree BSN program for a couple of reasons. Based on conversations with current students, from when you wake up to when you sleep is all coursework and studying, and I really need free time to have a school-life balance and be on my A-game. I also want to advance to an MSN or DNP, and I'll need to keep a high GPA to be a strong candidate for competitive programs. In that regard, rushing my coursework (specific to me and my studying habits) could have a significant impact on that.
In addition, because of COVID and because of clinicals starting immediately in the first week of the program, if you get infected and you miss time as a result, you can effectively delay your graduation pretty significantly. Since the program is completed in one calendar year, classes are only offered once a year (Spring classes can only be taken in the Spring). It would have been a big financial risk for me to take on an accelerated degree to just get sick and have to wait for another year, which would be the same amount of time as a two-year traditional program anyways.
It's definitely the right program for some people, but just not a good fit for me. I plan to check in on this account often, so any future UH applicants please feel free to PM me or mention me in the new thread and I'll do my best to respond!

Not sure where the hang up was, but my drug test results were sent to Tammy today and she was able to send my acceptance notification. Lots of stuff to do!
