UH Manoa GEPN Cohort 2022

Published

Just checking in to see if anyone will be applying to UH Manoa's GEPN program next week. I'm nervous for the application process so if you guys have any advice or questions, I made this forum for us!

Hey!

yes BSN option is still available. If you graduated undergrad from Manoa you can automatically apply for the BSN once GEPN year is done. If you grad somewhere else, theres 3 courses you have to take then can get the BSN.

Yes. There is a leave of absence you can take after GEPN year.

some people do get jobs after completing the GEPN year and while doing the DNP courses.

from what I have heard, most NPs work as RNs before actually practicing as a NP

Thank you so much for the info! To clarify, "leave of absence" as in, they can return after a certain duration (ie. 1 year) or they completely drop the NP/advance practice portion of the program?

And yeah, so I've heard. People are telling me it's really hard to land an RN job without a BSN or any experience in a hospital setting.

Do those people who get jobs while doing the DNP courses do new grad training programs? I am wondering if it would be a lot to handle training in a new graduate nursing program while taking the DNP courses.

I’m honestly not sure if they do new grad or just work at like a SNF.

yes I believe after you can go back. I can ask though just to clarify.

Hospital jobs are hard but I know there’s multiple new grad programs at the different hospitals per year. I come from a healthcare background and work at a hospital now but not too sure how much easier its going to be to get into new grad.

That would be awesome if you could! Also, do they grant the BSN immediately after the GEPN portion?

Do you have a link to this information?

I received an email today saying that I was put on the list of alternatives! I applied pretty late and my application was under review November 14th. Has anyone heard of how many people usually get off the waitlist for UH GEPN?

Hey! I don't have an answer about how many people get off the waitlist, but I also got an email yesterday about being on the list of alternatives. I applied pretty early on. I asked where I was on the waitlist and they said there was no ranking "at this time". Whatever that means!

congrats on getting on the waitlist! I know they made an announcement on their nursing page on Sunday 12/12 about how they filled all the spots for the cohort. Are you from Hawaii or out-of-state?
