UH Manoa GEPN Cohort 2022

Published

Just checking in to see if anyone will be applying to UH Manoa's GEPN program next week. I'm nervous for the application process so if you guys have any advice or questions, I made this forum for us!

I know it’s still early, but does anyone know when we will get the tuition bill or have to pay a deposit?

I’m not sure either but I’m glad you brought  it up because I’ve been worried about the financial part

You will get your bill when you register for classes during orientation which is in august.

Is there any deposits or payments we will need to do before August?

Nope! Just getting your supplies together (e.g. stethoscope, pen light, BP cuff, etc)

Congratulations to everyone with their acceptance so far! Has anyone received an acceptance for the APHN-MSN track yet?

I have been anxiously awaiting! My application for the APHN-MSN track went under review mid-September and I received an email a little over a week ago saying that it was still being reviewed. I'm applying from out of state too. I'm not sure if the others who were accepted were applying from in-state and/or applying to the DNP tracks.

I also have been anxiously awaiting but I applied for the DNP-FNP track ! I am also from out of state, and last week I received an email about my application still being under review. I am really hoping to hear back by next week.

I wonder if any out of state applicants have heard back yet?

My friend was accepted. In state though

Hey all! I was hoping the people who are in the program and those who completed the program could answer my questions:

1. Do they still allow the BSN option?

2. Have people ever received their RN license and not complete the NP portion of the program?

3. Is it easy to find a job as an RN while completing the NP portion?

Sorry for so many questions. The saturation for NP’s is so high that I’m just worried about not finding a job because we’d have no experience.

I have a lot of friends with their BSN working as nurses now, and new graduate programs at the hospitals in hawaii are competitive from what I’ve seen. I think many hospitals prefer to hire internally first, which is why many started as aides or ward clerks first.

I think most new grad programs at hospitals have a contract for 2 years.

Hey!

yes BSN option is still available. If you graduated undergrad from Manoa you can automatically apply for the BSN once GEPN year is done. If you grad somewhere else, theres 3 courses you have to take then can get the BSN.

Yes. There is a leave of absence you can take after GEPN year.

some people do get jobs after completing the GEPN year and while doing the DNP courses.

from what I have heard, most NPs work as RNs before actually practicing as a NP

Do those people who get jobs while doing the DNP courses do new grad training programs? I am wondering if it would be a lot to handle training in a new graduate nursing program while taking the DNP courses.
