UH Manoa GEPN Cohort 2022

Published

Just checking in to see if anyone will be applying to UH Manoa's GEPN program next week. I'm nervous for the application process so if you guys have any advice or questions, I made this forum for us!

I used to live there and have family there. Do they give preference to those who have ties to the state?

When did you guys submit?

My application went under review on 9/22

Hi!

I'm planning on applying to this program. :) I'm now seeing it is rolling admissions!  I wonder if its best to apply early. Good luck!!

Hi! I recommend applying as early as you can. I'm a current GEPN student and I applied early and got my admissions letter in October.  I have some friends who applied last minute and didn't get their admissions letter till July.

Considering how many of the prereqs are PSY courses I think your degree will look good on your application!  Good luck!

Hi!  don't stress about your previous degree.  I'm currently in GEPN and my cohort has a lot of diversity.  We have business majors, econ majors, science majors, public health majors,  some students who have bene out of school for 15-20 years, and then  I have my B.A. and M.A. in Hawaiian Studies.  I'd say as long as your grades are passing the B standard and your admissions essays speak true, you'll be OK!

Hi Jillian,

How do you like the program? Are there many out of state students?

I honestly love it. It’s a lot of work but you’ll still have downtime. We have a decent amount of students that are out of state.

Did you do anything, from the time you got accepted to when the program started, to prepare yourself?

No I didn’t. I soaked in as much time as I could get with family and friends and just used the time to relax because I knew it was going to be a lot on my plate. I think the professors did a good job with easing us into everything.

Were there people working during the first year for your cohort? I’m trying to get a call-in job hospital job so I can work a couple times a month.

I think there are only two people who are working and it’s because they’re contracted so they had to stay.  I wouldn’t recommend working, at least for the first semester, just so you can get a feeling of how it’s like and how to manage your time.

If you have not applied yet, they recommend applying for next fall as the class is basically full. I attended their info session on Thursday.

Hi! I previously had no experience working as a CNA or at any hospitals but if you are planning to work I suggest getting in and settled before starting school. If not, it will be too stressful and you might not have the time for orientation etc. I am one of the students who decided to work during the program... It is doable! But I'd say most of them are not working. If you have any questions about how its going for a gal who is coming from being a business major feel free to ask! I also have a close group of friends who all have different majors and experiences.

I know it’s still early, but does anyone know when we will get the tuition bill or have to pay a deposit?
