UH MANOA GEPN COHORT 2021

Published

I’m surprised that no one has created a forum for Cohort 2021 yet when application opens in a few weeks. Anyone here planning to apply to Manoa’s GEPN ‘21 program or is already in the program willing to give advice? Pointers? Feel free to share ??‍⚕️

Hi all! I got accepted to the GEPN-MS APHN track. This is my first time applying, and I submitted both my Nursing CAS and graduate division applications on September 14 and received my acceptance letter on October 22.

I graduated with a BA in Global Studies and Psychology, and I actually don't have much experience at all in healthcare so there's hope for those with a non-healthcare background. My undergrad GPA was a 3.6 and my prereq GPA is a 4.0 (I still need to finish taking Microbio and Human Growth and Dev). I have previously worked multiple administrative office roles. I attended a GEPN info session in April and started working on my personal statement in May/June because I knew a great personal statement that described my career path change would really impact my application. I remember reading through past forums hoping to look for someone with similar stats/background as me so I hope this helps future applicants!

I will be coming from CA so if anyone has advice about off-campus housing, please let me know!

Good luck to everyone!

Hey! I'm coming from CA as well and already thinking about how moving and housing will work. Would love some tips, too !

Hello  and congrats to everyone who has been accepted so far! I received my undergraduate from California State University Chico in Communication Sciences and Disorders. My overall GPA was a 3.6. By the time I applied I had all but 2 prerequisites finished with all A's and one B. After I finished my undergrad,  I joined the Navy, and currently serve as a Hospital Corpsman (Navy medic). By the time my contract ends in June, that will of been 5 years of medical experience. On my resume I listed my time in Virginia working in an emergency room, and my time serving on a ship.  I have been stationed in Hawaii for the past 3 years and have been loving every moment of it. Being accepted into this program is an absolute dream come true. I can't wait to start the program, and to learn along side everyone who has been admitted.  Living here for the past three years have been some of the best times of my life. If anyone has any questions please don't feel afraid to ask!

Hey guys! I know it's early but I'm of course thinking in advance about housing (coming from CA w/ a small dog) and would love input but would also like to throw out the idea a few or more of us renting a place for at least the first year. The cheaper the rent the better!
Hope to see and meet all of you guys soon.

For anyone who applied on October, did anyone get their acceptance/rejection decision yet?

When can we expect it?

Hi Mike,

I would suggest looking at the different areas in Honolulu that is available for rent. You can probably look on Zillow or the local realtors here.

Hi futurenurseally,

I applied at the beginning of October and haven't heard anything yet. I am assuming that something may be sent out later this month, which I have been checking my emails. I am assuming by Thanksgiving or possible after Thanksgiving.

Hi JenRo808,

I was just reading previous cohorts’ topic boards — cohort 2018 to be exact — and it looks like people who applied on Oct got their decisions by the first week of December.

I guess that’s one more month of anxiousness for me.
