I am in MA and we had last Thursday, Friday and then yesterday off for snow. Most annoying part is none of them really NEEDED to be closed, roads were cleared pretty quickly and we got a lot less snow than they forecast for the storms. So today I am back and the kids are all acting like fools, bouncing off the walls, and malingering like crazy. And we are off for Winter Break all next week. Lord help us!

Thursday was a mess of snow all day and I support that day off. Friday probably needed a delayed opening, but Boston Public Schools don't do delayed openings - they are all or nothing. I was surprised by Monday, but I was driving on Sunday evening it was brutal in the city. Scary and so much ice on the sidewalks everywhere on Monday morning. Roads okay, sidewalks ugh.
But the older ones are doing okay. Probably because they know another break is around the corner...
I didn't realize BPS doesn't do delayed openings. Maybe Lynn (where my school is) doesn't either. My town where I live on the North Shore definitely DOES do delayed openings and should have done that instead of closing Friday and Yesterday.
In the burbs, kids aren't relying on walking/public transport as much as they might be in the city. A delayed opening to clear out a parking lot makes a lot of sense. In city, a non shoveled bus stop and sidewalk mean kids are walking/waiting in the street. And some of those kids don't have the warmest attire to do so in. It stinks.
But on the flip side, Boston has been in session some times when the burbs aren't because the MBTA is up and running. This happen 1-2 days during that terrible winter a couple of years ago.

I'm in Worcester. We had Thursday off and 2 hr delay on Friday and Monday was cancelled as well. We have a lot of walkers and snow plowing is not the best in the city! Today is kinda crazy but I think because Valentines parties have already started and kids are on sugar highs!

We were off last Tues, which IMHO was a bust...they could have done an early dismissal. Off Thurs and yesterday!. Total of 5 days out, changes graduation, extends the year...blech.
My per diem job emailed me on Wed to see if I was interested in working Thurs if there was no school. Sorry, not sorry, no can do. I have been working PT in addition to my FT job for 30 years, not going out in that crap if I don't have to!

Here in Chicagoland, we have had no emergency days this year (so far). I know a few other local districts called a day for cold temps in January. I hope we get none, we are already in school a week longer than last year due to how our Winter Break and Spring Breaks fall.

We've had one 2 hour delay this year. No snow days so far and none last year either. I want a snow day! But, no, it's going to be 60 again this weekend...

I am torn, as much as a bonus day off would be great, we get out May 29, almost 2 and a half weeks before public schools in our area. It would be so great to take our local vacation before they get out and beat the crowds.
May 29th! I'm jealous. We go until the 24th. We had 3 snow days, which luckily were built into our calendar so we don't have to make them up. But the public schools are now going until the 28th...
I may decide to do my Cape Anne trip then, I didn't know that schools stayed in so long. The down side, long stretches of five day weeks. We rarely get a day off, just long winter and spring breaks.
Depends on when you start the year too! Our last day is May 26, but we started August 17th and this year I think the nurses have to be back on August 7th.
