UFV January 2020 Intake

World Canada CA Programs

Published

I will be applying into the Bachelors of Science in Nursing program at UFV for January 2020 Intake.
Currently have A-English B-Bio B-Chem and a B-Math of which math I will be upgrading this summer to an A, hopefully.

I am also a RCA and have a lot of volunteer experience as well in the health care field

Would this be a strong enough application? Also, if anyone has experienced the information session or interview please do mention how it works and if there's any way to prepare or sort of get a better idea on what they're expecting.

I just completed my application and sent in my supporting documents. I applied with 55 volunteer hours in harm reduction and the following grades:

Eng091 A-

Math 085 A-

Bio 093 A+

Chem 083 A-

Judging from previous threads we'll be waiting until the first week of October or so to hear back about info sessions. Have any of you applied previously, either to UFV or another school?

Hey y'all! Did everyone get their pre-requisites in? I found it stressful getting it all together on time! I have an A+ in Chem 11 & Bio 12, an A in Precal 11 and an A- in English 12. Unforntunelty, my provincial exam mark brought me down ?

I copy and pasted. This is what I was referring to regarding 4.0 or 4.33 gpa grading scale and whether ufv uses this. In Alberta high schools 80% is equivalent to an A grade. Where in BC you need a 86% for an A grade.

Hi Kathy,

Do the percentage ranges you have listed refer to the percentages received in the high school pre-req courses? And their corresponding letter grade value on the UFV grading scale? For example, if I received anywhere from 90 to 100% in all of English 12, Bio 12, Chem 11, and Math 11, would that count as an A+ on UFV's grading scale? Any clarification would be greatly appreciated! ?

Just barely! I was planning on applying for the Fall 2020 intake, but actually managed to get the pre-reqs done in time for this cut off, so it was pretty stressful as well. And those are really solid marks! Good job!! How did you do with volunteer hours?

Ahh yay good job! Definitely kept me up at night for sure. And thank you! had to upgrade every single one lol, I don't have volunteer hours but work experience. I work as a residential care aid in complex care. I have just over 350 hours! How about you?

Haha! You an me both with the upgrading. Sounds like you have a really good shot at getting into the program first time around! I have about 55 hours of volunteering in harm reduction (needle exchange and health van) - which is not as much as I was planning on applying with, but I thought it was worth a shot to try for this intake anyways. And now the stress of waiting to hear about info sessions begins!

Such a pain! lol, Upgrading is a different experience for sure haha! But thank you!! It is looking good for you as well. I wouldn't worry about the number of hours as that sounds like good experience in the field!! Best of luck to you ?

Hey sta13,

As far as I know, UFV takes either your final English 12 mark or the blended English 12 and Provincial mark - whichever is higher. Here's what I copy and pasted from their site.

"UFV does not require provincial examinations, but high school graduation requires provincial exams in some subjects. If you wrote provincial exams, the higher of your school mark or your blended grade (school mark and provincial exam mark combined) is used for GPA calculation. "

Hope this helps!

Yes that is true! They do only take which ever mark is higher for your English. Talked to an adviser specifically for clarification on this.

Good luck everyone! :)

@nay018 @_esbrar ahh I see, okay thank you good to know!! They took my blended grade which was lower than my final mark. Does either of you know who would be the best to talk to about this to get it fixed? ?

Call the office of the Registrar and clarify with them. They should have taken the higher of the two. Their phone line hours are nine to five, Monday to Friday.

Question: How did you check to see what mark they took?
